Need to buy some shocks
Ok, so i just got a set of Tokico springs for the awesome price of $80, now i need to get some shocks to go along with it. I'm still not sure on which shocks to get, konis or bilstiens. I'm setting the car up for street and auto-x, not really for drag, so i would like the best shocks for that purpose. i was just wodering if anyone knows a good place to get some shocks for a decent price. I'm hoping someone has a great site bookmarked that has some shocks on discout or something. Wishful thinking on my part, but it never hurts to ask.

hey..
Bilstein shocks/struts came factory on the IROC-Z.. they're a pretty good strut for the money. Konis are a bit more pricey but allow you to adjust the pressure..
Koni Reds will run you around $360 a pair for the front and around $200 for the rear plus shipping..
Bilsteins, on the other hand, are a bit cheaper at about $320 a pair for the front and $140 a pair for the rear plus shipping..
It all depends what you're shooting for and personal preference.. The Bilsteins should be a yellow shock/strut and Koni either red or yellow depending on the model..
take care,
Colin

So if ignoring the fact that the Koni's are more expensive, which ones would be a better for road racing/auto-x? I know people always say its up to personal preference, but i can't quite afford to buy a set of each and give it a go with each one. So I hoping all you with experience can help me out. Thanks

Well,
The import scene loves the Koni because you can adjust the pressure of the shock/strut.
Considering the price difference, I would just get a Koni. Everyone I've talked to has had good experiences, although you may want to search the forums for Koni and see what people have said about them..
The one nice thing is the ability to tighten the shock/strut up for road racing and then loosen them up a bit for cruising..
I've never needed a really high-performance ride (more of a straight-line guy) but my IROC with Bilsteins still handled great at 80k with the stock suspension.
take care,
Colin

You can't go wrong with either brand. If your going to get the Bilstein's then get the HD's and if your going to get the Koni's go for the sports (yellow's). Check out www.shox.com. They have about the best prices around that I've seen. $568.40 for the Koni's and $419.00 for the Bilstein's. I'm personally running the Koni sports and love them.

Well, I'm kinda broke right now but I intend to inquire about being an advertiser on here.. I'm trying to gear up for the 3rdgen market..
Since I drop-shop almost everything I sell, I can work on a slimmer margin than most companies.. if you'd like, I can get you a price on a set of Konis..

Alright Colin, that sounds good. Give me a price. You may not be an advertiser here yet, but i'd still llike to support those who take the time to help those of us who need it whenever they can.

hey newbie91,
I can do you a set of Koni Reds front and rear for $560.30 including tax. Shox.com is in California so you're going to pay $532.00 + tax (according to prices on their website).
If you want Koni Sports, they are a bit more.. Both the red and sport are adjustable..
I can deliver the shocks to you, since I'll be down in San Diego next week.. let me know if you're interested or call me at 909-314-5966.
Later,
Colin
