OEM 16 inch wheels
I have a question regarding a OEM 16 inch wheels (not the GTA wheels).
I have a 1986 T/A with 10 bolt and drum brakes. I heard somewhere I needed a spacers if I wanted to use those wheels. Is it right?

P.s. I tried the search but could not find anything about this

GM put .187 Thick spacers on cars with Iron Drum Brakes using the 16" wheels to keep the same spacing as cars that had Aluminum Drums. My 87 IROC had them with the Drum brakes. No big thing if you don't have them.

.187" = a little less than 5mm..... that's pretty thin.... hard to figure why the factory put such a thin thing there. Must have had something to do with automated assembly line equipment, would be my guess. Alot of people leave them out with no ill effects.
IT was the difference between the old Alumunum drums and the later Iron drums, so GM made everything equal with the .187 thick spacers when they started using the 16" Aluminum wheels.
Who knows what GM did in later years. My guess is as a cost savings they did away them with also. Sold mine when I changed over to rear discs.

Some cars with disc brakes also have the spacer.
