Gas tank questions---

well i took my gas tank out to fix a small leak but decided to get a new one going since my original one was rusted on the inside, that and the brace across the middle was loose and made noises. im getting ready to weld the new sump on there to fit my braided lines. my question is, what material should i use on the top of the tank that meets the chassy? there was 2 strips of almost like a cork substance on there to prevent it from rubbing on the chassy. on the old tank, i used that rolled spungy weather stripping, which worked but when i went to take the tank out again it stuck to the chassy. i had to pry it off which dented the tank, so im steering clear of that stuff again. any ideas? id buy the original stuff but i doubt the dealer carriers it anymore. please let me know, i need to get that tank in there so i can get my new rear in.

I dont know where you live but I would look up a gasket making company and see if you can order neoprene 1/8"thick tell them you need 2 strips 3 1/2 feet long by 3 inches wide . Its a tuff pliable rubber material or if you have a place near by check there dumpster at night...

go to Home Depot I'm sure you could find something there that would work.

thats actually a good idea. i dont have an innertube around the gurage though, nothing that even resembles one. i think im going to make a pit stop at the depot this weekend and see if i can find something there. the dealer might have it as a last resort though. they did get me my overflow tank and a plastic interior screw today, figured they would be out of production, guess i was wrong
