I want to put tall tires on my 88 IROC...what are the tallest (and fattest) tires that anyone has run, or knows will work?

Stock ride heigt
Stock 16x8 rims

Can I hit like a 285/60?

285/60 is a truck tire if you are staying with the 16" rim

You can probably get those to fit, but I would get something smaller because tires would be expensive and harder to find. Not to mention that it is a headache. I know that 275/40/17 fits great and look awesome.

I have a friend of the family who has a tire business an hour away...i know he will give me a deal on them. I know that 17s would make this a lot easier but i love the stock rims. I just want that mean stance with bigger back tires.

Check with your friend and see if you can get a 285 or 295/50 r16. Not sure, I've been out of the tire business for a little while now. On my 86, I used to run 255/50r16 on the rear and 245's on the front. (Can't rotate them anyway) I didn't have any problems, but I did see a guy try to squeeze 275/60r15's under the rear, and after a 5 minute test drive, he brought them back with gouges in the tire from the fender well rubbing. (But that could also have been from not using the proper backspacing)

I had 295/50/15or 295 something, they didnt rub when i was alone in the car, but once someone got in they would rub on big bumps, The did look good tho, esp compared to when i slipped up and ordered 235/70/15, The taller tire look grew on me, so the next one i get will be tall and about 275 or so. fronts are 215/?/15

here were the 295/?/15

here is a pic of the taller 235/65/15, not a good one but its a 28" tire, just needs to be wider

Thanks for the pics...that looks good! Did changing to the taller rear hurt your cornering at all? Does the *** slide easier now?

lol, no the tires didnt help at cornering actually made its suck lol, to much sidewall flex, and as far as sliding its got a posi now and its squirly in the rain, but even without the posi, in the rain it was bout the same, in the dry, ive never pushed my car that hard in a corner with either tire. Feel free to ask if ya have anymore questions.
