alum front bumper support.
well, i have a friend with a 83 iron duke camaro, and i know he needs some heads i have laying around.... so i was looking for a part i "needed" so i could trade with him.... so i wasnt just giving it to him.
well i recalled the alum front bumper thoes cars had... so i did the magnet trick and yup.. its alum.
so will a 83 iron duke front bumper support bolt onto my 91 and support the newer nose? or will i have to modify it to fit?

I'm possitve it will fit better on my car than yours
- I'm very jealous. I do believe the fit without any problems, but I have never seen one in person. If you decide to sell it, I want first dibbs.

I have one in stock, but I never have got around to comparing it in detail to a steel one. Just a cursory glance.
As far as I've been able to see so far, about the only difference is some hardware holes, for the egg-crate pieces. They can't be too terribly much different, otherwise all the parts tha tbolt around them wouldn't be the same from 82-92.

i believe the only difference is the shape of the egg crate pieces. i know for the 82-84 style crash bars you have to trim the egg crate edges to get them to fit a 85-90 nose. ask me how i know
. 84 camaro now has a 90 front end on it. FYI i think only the edges have to be cut back a little, although i can't see why you can't just swap the egg crate shaped pieces anyways.

When you go to buy new aftermarket ones they work for both...the egg crate holes are no biggie to redrill if necessary...it used some basturdized push clips if I remember right...
Id like to get one of those myself...

They make aftermarket aluminum front bumper supports...or whatever the technical name for them is... Classic industries used to/still does? sell them... They were $110 they worked for all years...at least for firebird.... I just never wanted to pay thet much for one plus the shipping on a big bumper like that...

Their catalog does not even have a picture or real description... There is a bumper SECTION OF THE CATALOG.... in here they list the steel replacements and also aluminum ones right under it... all it says is an * for aftermarket and then aluminum..for aluminum...
Does anyone know if the rear bumber supports were alum as well? Mine is gone from rust, and I know someone who can make me one out of alum. But I was wondering if I'd be able to get one from a boneyard or something it might be cheaper

why?
probly because the bumper is designed for a direct center hit. and its strong in that plane..
meanwhile your tubular one is only side for side to side loads and wont do much upon impact.
JimmyG-91Z:
i havent gone up there too look at it yet. he lives about a hour away from me. i probly wont be going up there until i goto barrow his engine hoist again.
