Are tie rod ends really this expensive??

I just bought an '88 Trans Am WS6 yesterday with a 305ci and TH700R4, and it needs a new outer tie rod end. I wanted to replace all 4 tie rod ends (inner/outer on both sides), but it seems I only have cash to do the outer one on the right side (which is the one that REALLY needs replacing).

I called Autozone and they gave me prices of $34.99 and $37.99. I don't remember which was inner or which was outer.

Then I called Lee Auto Parts and they gave me prices of $70 and $52! Again, I don't remember which end is which for the prices.

On my old car, tie rod ends were under $14 and $23 a piece. I don't want to drive my car until I get this fixed its so bad (1/2" of movement or so on the right outer one).

I mean, if these are pretty standard prices, I'll pay and just get the one tie rod end. They just seemed high to me because of the other ends I've replaced in the past.

Actually, I called AutoZone and spoke to another guy there and asked about their Valucraft tie rod ends, and I can get the outer ones for $15 each. I just double-checked the tie rods on my car and actually the inner ones have no movement at all, and neither does the left outer one. I just figured I'd replace them all, but since they don't have any movement, I may just stick with the one.

Ah not bad, Murray's has the inner ones for $33.99 and the outer ones for $19.99 and they all come with lifetime warranty. The $14.99 Autozone ones only have 3 month warranty. Adjusting sleeves are only $5.99 through them too...awesome!

The correct name for the parts are VALUE C.R.A.P. They make good parts for the certin situations. For example: you are selling your car and the jerk who wants to buy it wants you to knock $250 off because a shop told him you need new brake pads. You tell him no way and then you buy VALUE C-R-A-P pads and show him you put new pads on, problem solved!!!
