crazy wheelhop with 9" rear...

Ever since i installed my moser 9", i've been getting some crazy amounts of wheelhop. With the 9 bolt i had previously, there was virtually no wheel hop at all.

Suspension mods are lakewood lcas, spohn torque arm, and a boxed panhard bar. I've played with the pinion angle to no avail.

I'm told that with a 9", relocation brackets work wonders for eliminating wheelhop. Is this true? Has anyone else had a similiar problem after their 9" swap?

Eric

check your shocks,,,,,,,,,,american replacement shocks are good for freeways,,,,,no good for drag racing,,,,stiffen the back up ,,,,i bought new gabriel shocks and took em off ,,,,,,,,,,,the wheel hop was madness,,,, like steve mcqueen in bullit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,get some KONI ADJUSTABLE ,,,shocks,,,,,,,,,,,NOT the drag race shocks,,,,,,,,they are no good on the road,,,,,,,,GET the normal adjustable KONI SHOCKS,,,,,,,,,,,,very very good,,,,,,,,,,,i stress DONT GET THE DRAG RACING SHOCKS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,even koni SAYS NEVER use these on the ROAD,,in normal driving conditions,,good luck buddy
the 9inch is heavier,,,than the junk these cars had,,,,,,,,,get some shocks,,,,,,,,,,p/s you dont even need all the other items mentioned,,less you are running 11,s
my stock rear suspension is good for normal drag racing,, between 12 and 14 second stuff

it is all about geometry and spring control, you need proper dampening to control wheel hop, stiff springs, with great shocks work very well

geometry wise, if install the 9" threw you LCAs out of wack, that can cause wheel hop, look at the angle on your LCAs if the body side is lower than the axle side, you need brackets to correct. they should be very close to parrellel with the body side slightly higher. if you go the other way it is bad, if you go to extreme that is also bad.

most likely, its not your shocks. you didnt change them (im assuming)

what probly happened is that you BEARLY had a good LCA angle... (good is when the rear of the arm is lower then the front).

when you swapped, the mounting height on the new 9" was slightly diffrent... so now you have a bad LCA angle ( rear is higher then front)

so what happens is when the axle pushes the LCA forward, the LCA wants to rotate UP.. lifting the wheel from the ground. it then falls back down, catches traction again, and goes up... down.. up.down.up wheelhop.

I don't have any experience with LCA brackets but....

Are you still using the rear swaybar? If not I suggest using one. I know with a 9" conversion the stock sway bar brackets won't fit. I used Spohn's sway bar install kit for the 9" and reinstalled my rear sway bar and it plants the tires a bit better.

interesting mention about the swaybar. My 9" has the rear brace welded on so i was unable to mount the swaybar. I bought the spohn kit and i'm planning on welding the mounting brackets to the rear, just haven't had time yet.

AS for shocks, they're lakewood 50/50's and there relatively new, so i'm doubting thats the problem.

The springs are the tired OE 170K stockers. I KNOW thats a problem, just not sure what to replace them with. I might pick up a couple coil isolators and play with those, see if it gets any better.
