you should be alright up to a 295 depending on the profile and height of your car. your cutting close but you could do it.....no air ride though or extreme lowering without some quarter rolling.

does anyone have any pics of what a 285 or 295 looks like on a 9.5 inch rim with 5.5 inch bs. I dont wanna go and order these tires and have them rub and be out 600 bucks.

just look for a 285 or 295 tire. your basically putting a wider tire then necessary for the rim so not only do you have to watch the profile but your going to get that bulge you get with non sports profile tires. this will cause sloppy turning as well as give you more rubbing issues since the tire can move more.

what's the point of going slightly larger anyhow when 275 is the right width for a 9.5" rim? just measure out your offset so it's correct. companies now even sell wheel kits which let you mock up a wheel so there is no confusion. put the right size tire on it and then you can do whatever you want with the car with no problems.

as far as 295 tires.....just about all the companies make them. mine are bfg drag radials. i run 285/35/18 toyos on the street.

the 295's are in this picture.....so it's possible if you do the right measurements.

kandied91z,

would a 275 size tire fit fine on a 9" rim cause the rims I am getting are only 9" wide.

Sorry nolan for highjacking your thread.

yep, choose your profile wisely and no one will tell. a 265 is better suited though.

245 is for 8" and it goes up 10 a width for every .5" wide a rim. of course you don't have to follow this rule but if you do things will work out best in the end.

whoops, meant 10 so an 8.5 would be 255...etc.

found an ooold pic of my camaro. I had 9.5 inch wide rims wrapped in 255/45 17's. Perfect combination, if you ask me. Tells you how a 275 on a 9 inch rim might look.....totally wrong

very nice picture, look how much your stretching them in that picture....here in michigan your rim wouldn't last a weekend cruise.

personally i like the square tire but if you like the rounded edges like that running a narrow tire would work. alot of combinations can be made to get the ride width while using a different profile to adjust for the overall look as well as protect the rim.

Ok, i get your point. But if i am afraid of scratches on my rims i run the 215/65 15 on the 7 inch rim setup... I just mean, a lot of people in this forum want to reduce weight and increase power and performance. Take a look at the BMW M3 CSL - Exactly the same philosophy. And take a look at the rear of the car, 265's on a 10 inch rim.

If a 275 on a 9" rim is "totaly wrong" how come GM used them? And why is that the most recommended/used tire size for that rim?

you'll loose alot of handling running to wide of a tire like the picture above also.

there are plenty of threads on this topic so if you search you'll find your answer.
