Tire Help

I want to put new rubber on my 91 Z28. I am leaning towards some Bridgestone Potenza's (about $800), BFGoodrich Traction T/A's (about $600) or a new tire from Dayton called the Fuzion (about $500). They all have a low profile but I'm not sure about the Fuzion's since they are a new tire. I plan on rebuilding the suspension using Spohn, Eibach and Koni's.

Any opinions or options would be appreciated.

thanks

IF it was me.

for cheaper tires, i would be looking at the Kuhmo 712.

for slightly more money, the BFG KDW or Goodyear F1 ds-g3. would probably be where i was at. i have never seen any info on that dayton tire, and i think the potenza is overrated.

That's what I'm running. Good tires. I'm running the P245/50ZR16 size and I'm very happy with them for the $370 out-the-door price I paid for them as well. Excellent wet weather and very good dry traction. Actually I blew out my differential the other day, and I think its from my runs at the track with no tirespin with these tires. Granted, I do only have a 305tpi with auto and 2.73 gears, but still...

If you change tire size (because I've never seen this tire in P245/50R16), I'd look into the Kumho Ecsta MX tire. This is Kumho's top-of-the-line summer performance tire. Now, do know that these tires (same with the 712's) won't work in the winter..

The Potenzas are also very nice tires, but for $800 I don't think they are worth it. Could look into some Yokohama Avid DS (I think that's the model) tires as well, they are very nice too. I just talked to someone the other day that was running Fusions, but I don't remember who it was or what they said. I believe they said they were at least decent, but I'll have to try and remember who I was talking to.

I have Yokohama tires on currently, but I don't care much for them. I need all weather tires and the BFGoodrich looked good for this purpose. I had not seen or heard of the Fuzions until a couple of days ago, so I was wondering if anyone had tried them.

Thanks for your input so far.

I'm usually not too hard on my car. But it will soon be a weekend warrior , so I want something a little more aggressive. Not high dollar (more than $800), just something with a stiff, low sidewall and some directional tread.

Well if you want stick then go with the BFG KDW's or Nitto's but they wear out in no time. If you are willing to sacrifice a little on comfort ( read firm ride ) yet you want slot car handling combined with good stick them go with the Yokohama AVS Sports ( don't judge these by your experience with lesser models these tires are wicked! ) If you want comfort combined with good stick the the Good Year GSD3 is nice plus they look incredible only downsie is soft sideall making turn in sloppy but they do hold great once loaded. Arguably the best all arouind performance tire is the Michelin Pilot Sport but you better get the visa out for those. Hope this helps

Go to www.tirerack.com and compare Performance & All-Weather tires. Good feedback and pricing info also. The best place to sreach and avoid second opinions which don't count for a lot.
