Caliper Positions

87 camaro IROC-z, 350 TPI

I am in the process of doing my REAR brakes... While going back to compare the caliper on one side, to the other.. I noticed they are NOT a like. On the front, both calipers hang towards the rear of the car.

On the rear, the driver side hangs towards the rear, while the passenger side hangs towards the FRONT of the car. What the hell? I'm assuming one of the calipers has been replaced, before, and they didn't do it 100% correctly <_<

I'm assuming this will completely screw up the ebrake, let alone may cause some braking problems, maybe? The ebrake section of the caliper seems slightly different on each caliper, too.. And I can't get the ebrake lever on the driver side caliper working correctly, if I move it back and forth, the nut that holds the lever on loosens, and causes the thing to fall off. Not good, obviously.

Had to loosen the lever and such, or else we couldn't get the piston to compress at all.. but now that it's off, it won't go back on.

Anyone have any detailed diagrams on these calipers?

That positioning is perfectly normal for 82-88 cars with rear disc brakes.

Thats amazing. Are the calipers identical too? First thing i was thinking was some dumbass bought the wrong caliper and put it on backwards. I guess you learn something everyday.

That's exactly why they're made like that.... so that they'll be the same caliper. Cheaper; because there are fewer different parts.

The PBR system uses calipers that are mirror images of each other.

Same.

So, can anyone suggest anything about the Ebrake lever on the caliper? I have no idea what's wrong with it... i tighten the bolt on the back, and i can move the lever back and forth, but it doesn't seem to do anything at all, except nudge the nut off
