I Need me some shocks ...BAD

OKay my 89 formula riding over a small pebble in the road feels like i hit one of those ridiculous bolted down speed bumps.

I am on a very tight budget, but really want a set of Bilstien Shocks and struts. Is it really worth it go the extra dollars for them, Is there an equivalent or something close that cost say, half as much?

Also, I've been considering new springs after reading posts on the subject, I think the pro line Eibach are what i need.

My Question is how big of a job/labor is it to replace the springs on this car?

Thanks
LP

kybs are considered best for the price. i have kybs all around and i love them. its not hard ot install the shocks and springs. it took 45 min to do all 4 shocks and springs.

Thanks Phat,

So the Kyb's are good. I just looked them up in Summit and at 28 bucks a piece for the rear I think thats what i need. They don't have any front struts listed for 89 firebirds.

Now all i have to do is figure out this spring situation. I want to slam the car down, but I'm afraid of rubbing tires and scraping driveways. Currently as the cars sits, there is about 2-1/4 inches clearance between the top of the tire and bottom of the fender well on the front. I have stock 16x8 rims with 245 r50's all the way around. The rear has almost 3 inches of clearance.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good setup springs and tires to give the 89 the killer stance ? :hail:

i think i want to keep the stock rims.

if u want to go the cheap route, u can get kyb gr2 struts. i have the ajx's, where u can adjust the hardness on the struts. i have kyb all the way around and eibach pro-kit and it rides perfect. The ride height is perfect for me. not to high and not to low. I don't scrape unless i go real fast on bumps.

I got adjustable Tokicos shocks/struts and eibach springs. Its a good combo. Adjustability is good for setting up the car for twisties or dragging. I run 4outof5 out back and 3 out of 5 up front on street. 5 is stiffest. With this setup the car handles well but is abit stiff. I dont mind ride quality at all.

Sell for like 500 brand new, but I got them brand new off of ebay for 400. Springs I got off of ebay too for 180 instead of 240 out of summit racing. They are good quality shock.

I am going to be getting some bilstiens hopefully this spring but I think that changing struts are quite a bit more involved than doing the rear springs and shocks. Ill probably do the rear myself but the fronts ill have it done at a place where they can do the alignment and will have all the nessicary tools.
