rear coil over spring rates
rear coil over spring rates
just a quick question for the suspension guys on the forum. where would be a good starting point for rear coil-over spring rates. i was thinking somewhere around 250# to 275#. i know, i know..... whats the car going to be used for. well mostly street with some drag racing. on the rare occasion some auto-x. i am really just looking for a starting point. i will be using adjustable shocks also. thanks in advance

where are you mounting the springs? also what is your front spring rate. IIRC you are doing a IRS swap, if this is for the IRS, we would need to know how far in the spring mounting is, etc, to determine what rate spring you would need.
springs are going to be mounted to a cross member that is being fabbed up. at ride hieght they will need to be about 14". the front springs are stock 91' z28 springs. hope this helps a little.

the question is, where are the arm is it mounting, the leverage the arm has on the spring will be what determines the needed rate. if the spring is far inboard you will need a higher rate, then if it outboard.
On my 4th gen, I have the autofab real coilover setup and I originally went with 135 lb rear springs which were way too soft. I now have 150 lb which is much better, but I would probably be more happy with something slightly stiffer. My current setup has netted me 1.8 60's with regular street tires.
