Visible difference in quick ratio vs. normal steering box/gear?
Ok, I know the difference, but is there a visible difference by looking at the box? I know some people said that it says 'Z' on it, and others said something different. I'm just wondering because I need to replace my steering box, and at autozone they list a normal and a 'performance' quick ratio. I'm pretty sure I have the normal one, but I want to buy their quick ratio. Is there any visible difference, or would they not even care as long as they get their core? I'm sure they'd just rebuild it with quick ratio internals anyway. Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

When I switched to a quick ratio box I compared it to the stock one from my '91 RS. Both looked identical on the outside. Both had a 'Z' cast into them. The only difference was the serial number. At first I thought I may have gotten another standard steering box, but sure enough, when you turn the pitman arm, the steering shaft only goes 2.25 turns lock to lock versus 2.75 for the stock one.

Unless the ink stamped letters are still on the box, the only visible method of identification is internal. Not even lock-to-lock turns means anything. See this thread for more information:
