I recently read a post that mentioned 17" ROH ZS wheels

I have looked these wheels up on jdwheels.com and I really like the styling. I am just wondering what offset or backspacing to specify if I try to order these wheels. They list a few different widths from 8 to 9.5" depending on the style. I am looking to fit tires from 245-275 wide, depending on wheel availability and fitting the wheels in the fenders. I am running an 86 Z28 if that matters.

Does anyone else know of any other 17" 5-spoke wheels that look decent and have the right bolt pattern and backspacing? I am just having a hard time finding a good selection of wheels that don't need to use a spacer.

 

Here are the specs from Andris Skulte's website:

ROH ZS 17x9.5 offset: 5 mm backspacing: 5.472"
ROH ZS 17x8.5 offset: -7 mm backspacing: 4.5"

I have the ZS but they came on one of the Camaros I bought so I cant verify the specs. Andris is a pretty sharp guy so I would trust them.

ZS are nice and lightweight. I'm using these on my drift car. I'm really happy with em.

Do you know what they weight? IIRC the snypers are quite heavy. I would be interested to kow if the ZS is significantly lighter. (the weight is what has kept me from going with a pair or ROH wheels.)

 

I have the fronts off the car with the tires dismounted. Now would be a perfect time to weigh them. The fronts I have are the 17x8.5's. The rears have tires mounted but a few more laps around the track drifting and they'll be toast, ready to be removed. When that happens I'll weigh the rears, 17x9.5's. I'll post the weights in this thread when I get em ...

Crazy, make sure to post the weights of the ZS's when you do. I've been curiously about that fact for some time.

I am surprised there has not been a thread on this topic before.

 

The snypers are heavy. Very heavy as every cast wheel is. But they just look so darn good. I am wrenching this weekend and I will see if I can weigh one of them.

I have them with 8.5" front and 9.5" rears. Never weighed them bare but with 315/35/17 Nitto Drag Radials, the rears weighed 52lbs EACH. The fronts were the shocker. With 255/40/17 Kuhmo V700 Victorracer tires, the skinny 8.5" rim/tire combo weighed 54lbs. There's a lot of weight in the damn road race tire design apparently.

Did the weighing to see how much I'd lose going to my drag setup which is 15X3.5" and 15X8" Weld Draglights. 165X26" tire on skinny's and Et Street 28X11.5X15" out back. The skinny front rim/tire weigh 25lbs each. The rears weigh 35lbs each. Total savings for all 4 corners was 92 lbs!!

245/45/17 is a good size front tire but I went out on a limb and tried 2 sets of 255/40/17 and I like the look and feel. These Kuhmo's work out to only 24.8" tall, but it looks great once the front is low enough. I've tried 275 and 315 Nitto Drag's out back with the 275 being too skinny and the 315 being 1" wider than the rim on both sides(looks great, handles great but it's definately suited for a 10" rim). Also tried Dunlop 285's and that's a great size for a non drag radial tire. I believe my rears were 5.5" when ordered. Pics are on my website. Goodluck!

Andris' info is good and very accurate.

 

I weighed one of my bare 17x8.5 ZS wheels a while back when I bought them. If I remember correctly it was about 26 lbs.

 

I screwed up and mounted tires before weighing the fronts. Sorry!! I'll be mounting different rears soon so I'll make sure I remember to weigh the 17x9.5's before mounting.

 

Crazy, I had wondered what happened to this thread. Keep us informed on the weight of the ZS 9.5 inchers. I plan on getting some 17's sometime after I upgrade my front brakes.
