Not sure if this is the right board for this, but I don't know where else to post this. If I replace my 235/55R-16's with 245/50R-16's, will it make a difference in my speedometer? I want a little lower profile with more rubber on the road and I know these fit on my car because they were an option on the Z-28's. Thanks.

I didn't think that it would make too much difference, but wanted to be sure. Another reason that I wanted the 245/50's is the speed rating. There are more and better 245/50's with higher speed ratings.

I will be doing this to my car as well (i actually already ordered some BFG 245/50/16's to replace the old 235/55's). Any idea how much it will throw the speedo off, or is it like a minute amount such as 1 mph or less??

I got the BFG g-Force Sports for mine, and they are great. Much better than the Cooper Cobras. I may be going up to some 275/40R17s sometime. kinda sux, cause I just recently got the speedometer fixed from when I changed my rear end Guess I'll need a new set of tailshaft gears.

My next rear tire set up is a BFG drag radial(255/50/16)as I wont be driving it daily when my truck is done. This should give me a 10" foot print and improve my traction problem(Stock hp and still burn though 1st gear). I've gone through my suspension and still no traction. Were some Camaros issued the 235's from the factory? I've always ran 245's? Guess you learn somthing new everyday......

yea alot of camaros got 235's from the factory. 245's were an option (atleast in 91-92, i dont know about earlier years).

RS's got the 235's, every thing else got the 245's. Why, I have no idea.

235's were H-rated tires and the ECM was speed limited to 115 MPH and the 245's were Z-rated with no speed limiter.

Not true. My new car is a 92 z28 and it has 235's. 245's were an option on z28s(atleast in 91-92).

Actually, on my car at least, the ECM limits the car to 120. not that I would know. I wish someone sold cheap chips with just the cut-off deleted. But, then there's still the thingie in the transmission that won't let it go into 4th at more than 50%(I think) throttle.

Hey, there is almost no difference between a 245-50R16 and a 275-40R17. The 17s are anly .1 icnhes larger than the 16s in overall diameter. Thanks for the link, man. that's cool.

If you switch the 235/55/16 out for the 245/50/16 you will have a difference in speed and you will be actually going slower than what your speedo reads.
