Sounds like loose change..

Hey guys. I have a suspension problem. Everytime I hit a bump or pothole or anything like that, I hear a sound coming from the front suspension, most likely the passenger side, that sounds like someone jingling some loose change. Does anybody know what this could be? I am pretty sure it is in the suspension somewhere. What could be loose that would make that noise? Thanks in advance for any help.

Check your swaybar endlinks.

I had the same problem. I replaced the endlinks. still there. recently I replaces every single piece of the front suspension + steering linkage. still there. I swore up and down it was comming from the right front end. well, turns out it was coming from my right side......... it was the e-brake handle jingling. The whole time the problem was right under my nose. just goes to show you how perception isn't always as it seems.

thats a good point... I have a similar problem that I swore was coming from the rear. I checked, rechecked, and replaced everything... Turns out one of the bolts were loose on my trans crossmember!

Ok, thanks for the starting points. I'll take a look and see if I can spot anything in those areas that may be loose.

Try running a magnet around the inside of the K-member… I was once working on a friend’s car that was doing something like that and it had half a dozen nuts and bolts inside the bottom of the K-member.

Re: Sounds like loose change..

Resurrecting an old thread. The k-member idea is a great one. I have the same chain dragging / loose change issue. My endlinks WERE shot and doing all the bushings helped but it was still there just nowhere as bad. Other loose items: rear hatch pulldown had a loose bolt, the interior bolt for the rear seat striker was loose, I had loose bolts for one of the t-top bag mounts to the rear clip. Basically, anything that isn't tight can cause it.
