Can the steering linkage make hmmm like a bending twisting or whatever you want to call it sound ... when one hits the brake hard ?
This only happens when I stop at stop signs and floor the brakes

Well, I'm too lazy to try and find the link to the post, but... There's a post here about fixing the popping sound. It essentially involves removing both front tires and checking underneath the bottom control arm on each side for 2 or 3 loose or missing bolts. A large number of people checked and found the bolts missing or very loose. Tightening/replacing them usually fixed the noise. Even if this is NOT your problem, you might want to check all those bolts and make sure they are there and tight. Also check the transmissions crossmember bolts. Some reported missing bolts there as well. As long as you're under the car, check for the frame rail crack near the steering box.
Now if it's the tie rods/other connected linkage making this noise, I can only say you should get it replaced immediately if the joints/connecting ends are loose in their housings. I had a centerlink that was about as loose as a 50 ce... nevermind, you get the idea. The steering was so sloppy it was basically an adventure unto itself keeping the car straight on the road. The steering wheel had an ungodly amount of play, and I don't mean an inch or two.

Here, check this thread.

There are 2 pictures. One of the control arms bolts, the other of the transmission crossmember. Find both of them and match them up to your car and check the bolts.
