No rear sway bar?

Were rear swaybars optional in some vehicles?

After work today I installed my wonderbar, and new 36mm front swaybar. I also intended to put in my 24mm rear sway bar, and I was expecting to take off the old one, and put the new one on there with the same hardware (am getting a whole car poly urethane kit eventually, dont want to waste money), but to my dismay, there was NO rear sway bar! can this be right?

It is a 1986 Camaro Berlinetta. Originally equipped with the 2.73 open end 10 bolt rear end and an LG4 and 700R4.

The rear end is still on there for the time being (have a 9 bolt which I got the swaybar off of in the first place for when I do a rear disk conversion). The stock front swaybar was something along the lines of 26 or 28mm.

Any pictures of a rear swaybar setup mounting points would be great. When I took the swaybar off the junkyard vehicle I figured all the cars had rear swaybars and didnt bother remembering how everything went. Now I'm regretting it!

Thanks for your help in advanced!

Bobby

Your Berlinetta was considered a luxury camaro so to speak and had soft springs and no rear sway bar. You can buy the mounting brackets from TDS and ask Lon to dig up some bolts. You probally did this already. Take a tire off and you can'nt miss the two mounting holes on the underbody. There might be the rare ocassion where the holes are not there. Talk to Lon on this issue. I have a 84 berlinetta and was lucky to have mounting holes. Good luck.

Not saying that doesn't exist, but I have never seen an F-body that didn't at least have the holes. If the brackets and bolts are missing, just grab some from any thirdgen or fourthgen (same brackets, pretty sure the bolts are the same too).

The threaded holes exist on all cars, even if they didn't have a rear sway bar. FYI, I'll be picking up some rear sway bar end link mounting brackets from the powder-coater tomorrow. If you want some nice gloss black powder-coated ones contact me. I also have new bolts.

viewing this thread I had to check out my 82 4 cylinder Firebird and see if I had one on there. NO REAR SWAY BAR. the guy I bought it from was the original owner from 1982 up until last may when I bought it and he is by no meens a gear hear that would have removed it for any reason so I am def going to say that the 4 cylinder cars are prob pretty likely not to have them. I keep learnig new things about these 4 cylinder cars all the time, kinda cool finding out new facts.
