M/T 255-50-16 Street Drag Radial

Getting ready to buy some tires for the car after complete car
engine-suspension upgrades.

Just wondering if anyone is running the M/T street drag radials
on there 3rd gen camaro. About the only thing left original on
the 87 Iroc are the 16" rims and like to keep them.

Show car so tread life not a problem. Tires on here now are
255 in the rear and 245 in the front,Eagles.

Have looked at the M/T 255-50-16 Street drag radial and
wondering if anyone has or is running them without clearance
issues on thier car. The 255 Eagles on here now are about 9.6''
Treadwise and 26.0 diameter.The M/Ts are stating 9.7 & 26.0.
but worrying about the side edge radius

Any help or input appreciated
Tire Store here can get them but if they mount them to check
Have to buy them. Not happening!

Thanks

i have mickey thompson drag radials, i think they are 275/60/15 though, i don't have clearance problems, but the quarter panel on the passenger side is starting to cut the sidewall from hard launches. i probably just need to bend that lip up or something, just haven't gotten around to it yet. i don't have any clearance problems though, but wheel offset could make a difference too.

my old 305 cut consistent 1.75 60's on the 275/60/15 tire...hope to be in the low 1.6's to high 1.5's with the new combo. they are the best tire to hit the market in my opinion.

you will have no issues with clearance whatsoever with the 255/50/16 size.

I run the 255 50 16 and LOVE THEM. I wouldnt get any other drag radial. I've had BFG's in the past and they didnt hook worth $**t

Thanks for all the input, appreciate it.

Since these are more for show than go will probably go with
the 255-50-16 M/Ts. 5000 miles a year probably the limit on
milage. Do have the horse, with N20 on the way on top of that
to need them.

Only worry is the 1'' drop Eibach springs in the rear and clearance.

And how do they handle on the street in normal driving??
Do like to turn right and left at speed once in a while
What kinda of pressure is needed to get them stable when
not aired down for straight line??

Thanks

these have a soft sidewall...going around a turn at speed will be sloppy in my opinion.

i have about a 1" drop and a much larger 275/60/15 tire with minimal clearance issues...just a small amount of rubbing by the lca, easily fixed with a hammer.

I've been running the 275 m/t drag radials for 2 summers now and only hit the track about 5 times a summer with less then 150 miles on them and i can tell you there is no way you are going to get 5000 miles out of a set. but they are great tires. last summer i was getting 1.51 60' times and they feel just like reguler radials on the street with about 20 to 30 lbs in them. when i race i run about 15 to 17 lbs in them. they hook just as good as my m/t slicks.....
