What backspacing do I need?
I was looking at getting a set of weld racing draglite's just for my slicks. I'm planning on running 275/60/15 Hoosier drag radials. I was going to use a 15x9 rim but they only come in a 5.5" backspacing. I need to know if this will work without any problems. If it is a problem I will switch to a 15x10. What backspacing would I need to run these without having to do modifications in the wheel wells? I'm only talking about the rear tires.
I run 9.5" wide with 5.5" backspacing no problems. Have you tried a search? Try something like "*x10 backspace" or "*x9 backspace" and you'll get all kinds of answers for specifically 9" and 10" wide.

5.5 backspacing will tuck the tires in better. You will have to do some minor inner fender wheel massaging at the front. with that size tire you could even go with a 15x8. I had 15 x8 drag stars with 295/50/15 tires. I now have 15x10 for the strip. I have also read that 15x8 with 4.5 bs will work, but from the pics ive seen the stick out too far for my taste. hope this helps

I already have a set of 15x8's on the back. I checked summit and the recommended rim width was 8-10. I just think it will look like crap, and would imagine that having a smaller rim would cause a loss of contact patch comared to a 10. I'll probably wind up with the 15x10's anyway since it's only a few bucks more. Like $15 more per rim.
So what kind of work am I looking at doing to the fender well to fit a 15x10 in? Just a little torch heat and and mallet, or cutting away and welding in some new metal.

just a big malet or hammer to the front inside. i removed bump stop also. it would rub if the car was jacked up. what backspacing are the 15x8 wheels you have now?
