large diameter rear sway bar act as anti-roll bar?
i'm looking at the new-er BMR anit roll bar and it just looks like a large diameter sway bar that is solid mounted to the rearend and the rear of the chassi. i was wondering if i eliminated the bushings in my rear sway bar, went to an IROC or WS6 style bar and maybe welded the bracket that holds the end links to the car if this would act the same way...seems like it would.
here is a picture of the BMR unit...
and installed...
one more of the end link area...

I was always under the impression that AN anti-roll bar is the same as a sway bar,anti-sway, stabilizer-bar(sta-bar),..ive even heard them referred to as "roll bars".
Interesting setup though, usually on bars designed like that they have more than one adjustment hole in the sway bar. im not familiar with that design but i suppose you could tighten the link bolts to adjust the sway bar rate??

That bar is designed purely for drag launches. It is very large, to keep the rear axle from torquing over. YOu can also put some preload on the passanger side, to help that even more.

exactly. dewey has the right idea...this car sees a bit of street, but quite a bit of drag racing as well...but i don't have the money that BMR wants for this unit....it's like $350+
so...would getting a larger diameter sway bar and some poly bushings help in the mean time? an IROC rear sway bar can't be that hard to come across.

I would just toss an air-bag in the right rear spring, and pump it up for the dragstrip. Putting a huge rear sway bar in, will induce oversteer, while you are driving it around on the streets. Depending on how big you go compared to the front, it may be very hard to keep the rear in check when cornering.

a sway bar and a anti roll bar is the same thing.
but yes, a stiffer rear sway bar helps alot with drag launches...
even adding poly bushings to the stocker helps...
but front swaybars suck for drag racing.. drop the front swaybar and you'll get more weight transfer.

here is what i do before i go to the track:
put back of the car up in the air, inspect evertying to make sure things are tight, replace street radials with drag radials. put back of car back on ground.
put front of the car up in the air, inspect everything to make sure things are tight and there are no leaks coming from the motor. drop sway bar, replace wider front tires with a skinnier front tire. put front of car back on ground.
so yeah, i already drop the front sway bar...
i have poly bushings on my endlinks right now, should i go to a poly bushing for the part that bolts to the rearend?
