Need thoughts on some tires
I'm looking at putting on some DOT drag radials on the back that I can drive to and from the track on and ocassional weekend visits to Atlanta (about 90 minutes on the highway). I'm also looking to go up in size as well. My rims are Weld draglite 15x8's. Here's what I'm looking at in the order I have them ranked starting with my top choice.
Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials in 275/60/15

BFGoodrich Comp T/A Drag Radials in 295/65/15

Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials in 295/65/15

I'm not sure if the last two will fit in the fender either. Any thoughts or reccommendations?

I have 15x8 weld prostars with 5.5 b.s. and i am running M/T ETStreets that are 28x11.50. I had to do a little pounding to the inner fenders just to make sure they didnt rub on launch.
Here is a couple of pics to show what they look like.

When you say they are 28x11.5, are you saying the tread width is 11.5 or are you talking about the section width? Also do you know the largest diameter tire I can go without rubbing/cutting. I was thinking about going with a M/T 315/60-15 whichis a 30x11( tread width) with a section width of 13.4. I also thought about using the M/T 295/65-15 which are 30x10(tread width) with a section width of 12.4.

I think that 315/60-15 will be way too big for a 8" wide rim. I know of people running that size on 11" wide rim. You might be able to get away with it on a 10" but im not sure. My tires are 11.5 section and the actual tread is about 8.6 and section is about 10.9 and i had to do some modifications to get them to fit.

I just looked up the M/T ET Street radials and the ones that are the same size as my tires are the 275/60-15 and they say they are for an 8" rim. You could probably go up to the 295/65-15 which are for an 8.5" rim but the have a height of 29.6 and tread with of 10". The 315's are for a 9.5" rim so i think they are a bit large for your rims. Hope this helps.

The 315's were just a thought if I decided to go to bigger wheels with a different backspacing to push them out of the wheel well. I know they won't work with what I have. I think I'm gonna go with the 275/60-15 M/T's. They seem like to have a bigger footprint compared to the BFGoodrich drag radials of the same size. They're about $15 cheaper, but I'd rather have the traction for an extra $30 for the pair.

Go with the M/T's over the bfg drag radials. I have only heard good things about how well those MT radials work. There are some guys running great times with very good 60 foot times with em.

I wouldn't go over 28 tall unless you like looking at the ground. You'd be jacking the crap out the rear to get 30" under a 3rd gen w/o tubs.

I want the full traction from the et streets, but want to be able to drive to and from the track and take ocassional trips a hour or two up the road. The 1/8 mile track is just 10 minutes away but the 1/4 mile strip is about an 90 minutes away. I guess my cheap *** could spring for 2 new rims and get the M/T's or some slicks and just keep what I've got on there until I get to the track. That's just a lot of cash though.
So knowing my situation with the tracks what would you guys reccommend?

mickey thomspon drag radials hook just as good as et streets and almost just as good as some et drags !!!!!!!!!!1 I know of several people running in the 1.30 60ft's on mt drag radals..... they are better than and bfg or nitto all day long........

Should help my times a lot since I just added that 150 shot of nitrous. I can't wait for the track to open up so I can see the difference in my times with my current street tires and then with a new set of big m/t's on the rear.
I've been patiently waiting for Mickey to release a 315/35/17 DR. I hope they do. I may need more than the BFG's to meet my 60ft goal, and I don't want to go to the 390/40/17's because of the height difference between them and my fronts.
