Best way to Rotate Tires
From what I have read/heard, there are at least two main methods:
1.) Roatated them according to the owners manual. This methods allows each tire to be used/driven on all 4 corners after the third roatation

2.) Simply rotate the front tire back to the rear (on the same side for both sides) Some people believe this is better because its better for the drivers side and passenger side tirers to stay on their respected side of the car and avoide breking a belt when criss crossing tires. Most dealerships rotate front to back and dont cross rotate.. My opinion is it doesnt matter. I have always rotated just front to back and have gotten great life out of the tires on all my vehicles..

i am a service advisor at a dealership and the reason that we only rotate tires from front to back is because with a cross directional rotation you can some times get pulls or vibrations. also if we only rotate from front to back
there is no problem if there are directional tires mounted on the veh.

I don't rotate at all. I'll only rotate slicks from side to side.
Reason: Everyone here says $3 for rotations, even after I tell them they have to mounted on the new rims. I've even had a tire shop use a hammer on my center caps cause they were mad that they couldn't just put the fronts on the back and the backs on the front. Needless to say they bought me 3 more at GM dealer prices. Then after they find out they can't they want to charge me $10 - $15 per tire to rotate. I'm not going to pay $40 to $60 for a simple rotation. If I can run tires for 40k to 50k miles I'm happy enough.

IROC wheels are axle specific. Front & Rears can only be used at those locations, (Note wheels are marked front & rear). That is why the tires need to be removed & balanced for a tire rotation with stock IROC wheels.

You can rotate the tires front to rear with GM's 15x7 rims. For GM 16x8 rims the tires must be removed from the rims, re-moounted onto the new rim and rebalanced in order to "rotate" them. This is becuase the front and rear rims have a different offset and can't be swapped. Bottom line, if you have 16x8 rims the minor amount of life you'd gain by rotating the tires isn't worth it when you factor in the extra cost of dismounting and rebalancing them.

This applies to the Z28 style rims used by 91-92 Z28's and RS's ? That one has to remove the tires ?
I'm asking since my front tires are .. whoa... bald... and cracking a little bit .. about to get two very good used tires from a guy.. but they look wider than my front ones so...
