Are you talking about the upper panhard bar support bar? The one that has the body mount end for the panhard bar.

I wouldn't mess with that centers your rear end under the body. I once had a panhard bar snap on my old buick ('90). When you made any kind of turns the whole body would roll enough the car would zigzag. Not at all fun to drive. Basically without it the body is just resting on the spring, shocks, sway bar, and lower control arms back there. You'd be dog legging like crazy.

I've asked the question beofre regarding that bar...it can be referred to as a "Track Bar," although i don't know its specific name...i wonder what would happen if it was removed since the panhard rod has the function of side-to-side support, i wonder what the function of the other bar is...

the one above the panhard rod spreads to stresses from the PHR to both sides of the car. go ahead and remove it and the first time ya go around a hard corner that mount is gonna bend and probably tear loose.

if you live your life driving in a straight line, then removing something that soley effects your cars ability to corner wouldn't hurt eh?

But if you're driving it on the street, taking corners, then it's probably best to keep it there.

Ok everybody, take that track bar off your cars, then drive it for a few months taking corners really hard, and then let me know how you made out, then maybe i'll take mine off...

OK go here http://www.deadbird.org/home/index.a...es&r=40&pid=42 and look at Part 9 under Rear suspension. it says right there that it is the brace for the PHR.

I would think that it takes the load of the panhard bar off the oneside of the car and distributes it to both sides of the car. The panhard bar bracket goes into the passenger side frame rail, and the upper bar connects the bracket to the driver side frame rail.

Mine has been off my car for the past 5 years. Over 10,000 street miles and 100's of passes at the track. Car has been 8.96 @ 150 with a 1.27 60'. Due to the set up of my car I do not takes corners at extreme rates of speed. The car does see plenty of windy back roads due to where I live though. There has been absolutely no movement in the bracket. However I would not recomend it's removal on a car that is cornered extremely hard or sees any kind of road coarse time. On a street/strip car that isn't set up for blasting around the turns full bore it does not need to be on the car.

It's a pretty wild small block. 436" with nitrous. It goes 10.0's on the motor and the 8.96 pass was on a 250 shot. I only have a few passes on it and there is definetly more left in it. As for driving it on the street. It's actually pretty streetable. It has full interior and never overheats. It even gets ok gas milage for a 1050 dominator. I've gotten as much as 10 mpg on a recent trip to a car show.

Cecil County on saturdays. You can get alot of runs in and the track is usually good.

We all know it's not there due to stock HP numbers...

Doesn't have anything to do with HP. Its not there for strait line accelleration. The PHB locates the rear laterally and as such takes the full load of the whatever lateral G forces your car can generate. The support bar reinforces the mount and transfers that load across both sides of the chassis. thay acually make stronger versions for the 4 gens. If your building a dragstrip only car, probably not an issue, but dealing with the constant loading and reversal of loads you will see on the street or road course/autocross, and lack of constant inspection you might be seeing a catastrofic failure.

ya that would be cool to watch see someone take a corner and that mount fails wonder how far the axle would flop to the side Hmmm.
