lots of play in steering

I have a lot of play in my steering, with the car off I can roll the wheel at least 1" each way before meeting resistance, which leads me to believe it is the rack. Anybody else have experience with this problem? It is an IROC so the steering should be a lot tighter.

Either the pivot on the centerlink is loose or the guts in your steering box is worn out.
I just had the steering box replaced in my Z28 cost me $400 installed.

Anything else it could be ? Mine's very loose too, I don't expect to be tight as an Iroc box, but yes I have that dang play in it too
