best tourque arm??

Hello there

i am new to the upgrading of an fbody and i have a question

i am thinking of getting a short touque arm with its own mount. does anyone have one of these? if so how do you like it?

only reason is i am undecided on the trans i am going with and if i want to switch it i dont want to keep changing the tourque arm mount

thanks for the help

first thing first, if you haven't already, put sub-frame connectors in. It should be the first thing done to any 3rd gen.
- As far as the tq arm, hit the search key. There are many options, and which one is best is just an opinion. There are pro's and con's to all, and prices vary greatly.
- I like the BMR track-pack unit. Simple install, very strong, fully adjustable, and you can get a ds loop with it very cheap.

well me and shagwell put the BMR Trak Pak on my car we havent tested it yet cause the trans went out on it but i agree with shagwell totally i almost went with spohn but i was looking through GM High Tech and there was an ad for BMR and they said that they have broken all the records for 60' times with 1.12 and 1.21 on third gen cars i did some research and i liked it better and it was even cheaper by like 50 bucks and to make things worse i have heard spohn shipping sucks basically so then i was sold i ordered it a couple days later about i week later it showed up i by the way it looks it shure as hell wont break so BMR has my vote 100% hope that helps. Thanks Daniel

Stock works fine depending on what you want to do with the car. I went 11.6 with the stock torque arm, 12.2's on radials with the stock torque arm on 1.7 60's.

I also run the stock torque arm -- On Drag Radials I average 1.62's and a best of 1.58 . The rest of the suspension is built up though.

...and you could also do much more with an aftermarket unit. First being pinion angle. I run 6 degrees down, sounds like a lot but any less and my 60fts start rising fast. Also, the factory piece deflects = wasted energy. The time and power spent bending the arm should be spent going forward. Yes there are cars running well on factory tq arms. They could run better on aftermarket....it's been proven by many members on this board.

I don't think anything has been proven on this forum about torque arms. Go check out the drag racing forum, you might not find an aftermarket torque arm on any of the "fast" cars. I have friends who have run back to back passes, aftermarket torque arm and no torque arm on 11 second 3rd gens, no difference in ET or 60'. The aftermarket pieces are heavier than stock most of the time, I just don't see the benefit. We can argue this into the ground, but prove to me that the factory piece deflects. Have you been under your car when you launch and taken measurements?

I like the Random Tech Torque Arm. Mounts like stock but has rod ends on the rear so you can adjust pinion angle.

- I video'ed it via a camera strapped under the car. It was several years and 3 houses ago, so I'll have to see if I still have the video. - Maybe its not as big of a deal for guys on slicks, and maybe some are in better shape than others. I went from 1.82 60fts with just lca's and relocates to 1.73 just bolting the arm in. Once I got it dialed in I got a best of 1.66, consistent 1.66-1.69's.
- My money is on the tires, but one way or the other, street tire cars need all the help we can get. I'm not the only one who has lowered their 60ft with a good tq arm...
