Lakewood lift bars
Lakewood lift bars
I am new to the third gen game just got rid of my LS1. I saw summit had lift bars for third gens anybody around here use these? I know everybody with 4th gens runs adjustable torque arms but I was told if you run these bars you can eliminate the torque arm which would be nice as I have to buy a bunch of parts to swap to a TH400 anyway.

I'm not real familiar with the lift bars (Though everything that I have heard was less than positive), but I don't really see any way to eliminate the torque arm without completely changing the suspension geometry. I'd probably suggest using an aftermarket torque arm that mounts to the transmission cross member, which will make your TH400 install easier.

the entire rear suspension of 3rdgens is identical to 4thgens.. you can even swap stock parts back and forth... everything you learned about TQ arms and setups with 4thgens applies to 3rdgens the same way.
btw, those lakewood bars suck... heh, im surprised noone has sued them yet...they have this tendency to break.

identical except the torque arm mounting points are different for aftermarket pieces.

yea.. STOCK is identical...
on the 4thgen theres the tunnel brace, where most shorter torque arms mount to... we dont have a tunnel brace, so we either have to "reach back" with the trans crossmember, or add a mounting point to the car.

i have a set of the lakewood industries traction/liftbars from summit. they are nice because you can preload the chassis and actually adjust your ride height a bit if you feel like doing it this way, they also look cool from behind
