Roll bar dimentions

I'm posting this in the hope someone here either has a roll bar waiting to be fitted or is generous enough to measure one in their car.

I need to get a few basic length to help making up my roll bar. Can't get a kit in australia so i need to make my own. But its just so hard running a tape between the various points trying to get the right sizes.

If anyone can help me with any of these sizes id be VERY APPRECIATIVE. Hell, ill even paypal someone $10 to do it

The measurements im after would be to the center of the tubeing.

Ok, just went out an measured mine.

A the tope of the hoop 40 1/2"

B widest point 50 1/2"

C 49 5/8"

D 35 1/4"

The guy that did mine ended up bending 3 main hoops before he got it the way he wanted.

Anyway hope that helps.

Those numbers will only get you in the ballpark. Each bend adds length to the tube. A kit will always come with tubes that are about 6" longer so they all need to be cut for a custom application.

Any good chassis shop with a mandrel tubing bender will know the formulas for the lengths of each bend. Length is always measured through the centerline of the tube.

Don't use a pipe bender (bow and arrow style bender). It will pinch the tube so the roll bar won't be track legal.

Yea, the distance isn’t going to help you much, not only do you need more tube in the bends but you’ll never measure to the same point in the bend 2x, at least not easily. Instead what I would suggest is that you’d need either the height from line A to B or from B to C. Also, you’d have to know s where the reinforcement plates were mounted and where he measured from the floor to get the A to C height.

Really, you’d be better off bending a brake line/welding wire… or cutting out a cardboard template to a shape that will work in your car then going off of someone else’s measurements, since no 2 are exactly alike and if you go strictly by the rules you’ll find that you’ll have to fit it somewhat to yourself, I think that Steven 87 IROC and I have had this discussion before that although his cage fits very well I’d never be able to use it in my car (I’m 6’4, 300# , big chest/shoulders, no butt and all long arms and legs, I actually have to mount my seat 2” further back then stock just to drive the car).

As far as the pipe bender… it can be done without compressing/pinching the tube if you carefully support the tube in the bends. I’ve seen a couple done that way, done a few bends that way and know of at least 2 chassis shops that use one.

While we’re at it, I’ve always wondered why people don’t add 1 or 2 bends in the flat top part of the main hoop just to get it to follow the roofline a little better (though I have wondered what that would do for NHRA and IHRA rules since they measure tube locations off of the bends in the main hoop and your top 2 bends wouldn’t be your top two bends anymore)
