Problem with UMI Subframe braces (dual cats)

My 89 GTA has dual cats and I've been having trouble finding a way to install these on my car. Before I try to return them, I thought I'd ask the group for suggestions. I realize there are other braces that would be an easier insall for my car and I will go that route unless there are fairly easy suggestions.

I bought these at Carlisle's GM Nats and when I talked to the vendor selling them they said they would fit right in. I didn't know until I got them home that dual cats may cause a problem. I've been asking around all summer and have had no luck with finding anyone around here that could put them on without major changes (like replacing the cats)

I live just north of Phila, PA and would be interested in suggestions for a reasonable shop to do the work.

thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello,

I think I might have talked to you by e-mail as well?

The problem is the dual cats, I know our eBay ad's and website as well as our catalog (which was on display at Carlisle) All state that these may not work with 88-92 dual catted vehicle or will require modifications to get the small piece to fit correctly. If you asked somethere if they will fit with dual cats I would be very sure they didn't tell you they would clear since we know they won't.

My suggestions is try to modify the exhaust system. If you do not want to do that then try this- Leave the third smaller piece from the passenger side off the car. Just install the (2) major SFC's and let the small piece off. Then down the road when you do decide to get a newer or replacement exhaust system install this smaller piece. We do leave that piece seperate to allow movement and adjustment for these situations.

If you need any help I will do the best I can to help.

Thanks,
Ryan

Car: projects.......
- I haven't installed a set of the UMI sfc's myself, but the little tie bars are the least of the strength. The important part is the large piece running the length of the floor board. - You already own them, so I'd just do what he said.

- several sfc's don't even tie to where that little bar goes....
