tranny crossmember bolt issue? HELP
I recently replaced my trans mounts on my car. When i was placing the crossmember back into the car, one of the cross members bolts inside the frame is strip. Any have this issue and how to you resolve the issue? Also is it possible to have the frame close to the crossmember refabed by a body shop and has any ever paid to have this done before? what are the cost involved? Thanks for the help in advanced.

Happens all the time.
Sometimes you can get up in there through one of the other holes, and grab it with Vise-grips or something.
One thing that always works is to use about a 1¼" hole saw from the interior, and then patch that back after you're done.

Naw, What I did was drill it out clean and drop a bolt in though the top though one of those oval access holes in the subframe. You can slide up an open end up there and hold the top bolt and use a nut then to bolt up the X member. Worked flawless for me this way. No way am I drilling though the floorboard to get to a bolt.

I drilled out the threads and retapped it for a bigger bolt. This worked fine for the first 20-30 times I took the bolts out but I think its happening again. I cant go back and drill it our again. There proberbly isnt much wall thickness left. I will either pull the carpet and cut a hole and weld in a new set of nuts or fish the bolts through the holes in the side of the framerail. Havent decided yet. I guess the only downside to driling a hole inthe floor is that your proberbly want to make sure your measurements are right the first time so you only have to drill one hole.

Just run a 7/16-11 (or is it 14?) tap through the hole and put in new bolts
Which would work great; until you realize that it's just some kind of cheeeep chinesium nut captured inside a little sheet metal cage, and about half of the problem is that the cage ceases to hold the nut, and it certainly won't hold it still against the force of a tap; and that even if you do successfully tap it out, now you have EVEN LESS chinesium left up in there holding everything together.
Much better deal all the way around to get rid of that cheap one-time usage (factory assembly) stuff that you should consider yourself lucky if you get to re-use even ONCE, and replace it with something more secure.
