I have a 92 RS with a 305, and i love it, i paid $2500 for it, well after a few months, i found out that it needs, front struts, centerlink, sway bar link kit, sway bar bushing kit, and front struts, along with 4 new tires, i was quoted $1200 with out the tires, now im 17, have very little money, and im not sure if i should fix it, or just sell it and get something else, i cant really part it out cause i cant have it sitting in my drive way for a couple of months, and i only have what i can get for it plus about a grand, so i dont have alot of money to play around with, what is the best option here?

check summitracing for those parts because i have a feeling 1200 is pretty high. I'd say stick with it and try to find better deals.

I got bushings, bearings, tie rods, ball joints in a kit for about 200. I trimmed some guys bushes and he put all that on for the work. I then had to get a front alignment for 59.95. The front struts for 88. Put on for 172.
----------
The 172 included a front alignment.
----------
If you need new wheels i would try Ebay or this sites for sale forums.

as for the sway bar stuff, if i were to just get one aftermarket would that help? the tires will be in about a month so i have time, and i was told i dont have to do the struts right away

I used the same PST kit, its good. Since money is an issue I would do the cheapest things first. The swaybar endlinks and bushings are not going to be expensive and they are easy to replace. The centerlink bushings only need to be replaced if the steering is loose (and even then, there are other bushings that can go bad and cause loose steering). The struts and tires are probably the most expensive, between the two I would do the tires first. There is no reason to part the car out. It should still drive with bad bushings and blown struts. It won't be as good or as safe as new stuff, but its do-able while you save up money to fix the parts. The tires should be your biggest worry as far as safety, bad/worn tires can make the car unsafe to the point you might not want to drive it everywhere (especially depending on weather).

My advice? Fix it. Why? Repairing it will save you from calling yourself a dumb a$$ for the next 60 years. Talk to any old fart like me and you'll hear the same story: "I had one of those when I was young. Shouldn't have ever sold it. Don't know what I was thinking."

i bought mine when i turned 17,and i was fixing it every weekend, and for that matter things have never changed, there is always something to do. but the car is fairly simple to understand and work on and learn on. when i bought it i didn't know a distributor from and differential and i have learned so much in the 7 years Ive had the car i would never go back and change things

Okay, looking at you listhere is my suggestions. First thing to do is buy a good shop manual for the car so that you can do the work yourself. The sway bar is a nice thing to have on a car not required so I would do the endlinks (about $15 at NAPA) and leave the bushing kit for when money allows. The centerlink is something I would put on the top of the list as well. This is on my list for this coming season but I do not have any prices for parts yet. Are your tires wearing strangely? If not you can let the struts go for a while. Don't get me wrong here this is one of the best handling improvements you can make to the car but if cash is tight let it go for now. Also the struts are something that some shops will kill you on the install. I was quoted 650 for the struts and shocks, did it myself in about 6 hours. Tires are needed and you should be able to get decent tires on the car for about 300. It sounds to me like you should be able to do all of it for around 600 if you do the work.

I would shop around and take a look at what you yourself can do. Alot of the things a person can put on themselves and save a ton of cash that way. the centerlink is what the tierods attach to if i remember right. As for strut prices that is depending on taste... I guess the biggest thing would be to list the actual parts that were quoted. I can tell you that the most you should have to worry about getting done is an alignment in the end. and haveing the tires put on the rims.

my tires are wearing evenly, since it snows here, i was told something about retreading and studding the 2 rear tires and getting 2 all seasons for the frong

so centerlink, tires, sway bar (if i just buy a new set of high preformance ones is everything included?) and then struts

jamesC i get what your saying to, my original plan was to do just have this until my mustang build up is done, but, the maro is so much more comfortable then the mustang, and a little quicker (even though i cant chirp second in the maro) basically is what i would like to do is get the camaro into a slightly modded reliable DD that i can have for a while

www.rockauto.com

$156.95 for the parts you listed, good stuff, Moog and Monroe. As far as the idler arm, yeah itd be a good idea to replae it. tie rods and ball joints too, although the ball joints maybe somewhat complicated for the average driveway mechanic. the kit from spohn is 400, and you can get the stuff for less from the site above. yeah you need to support site sponsors, ive got all thier suspension parts on my car. anyways, if you have the means, do the work yourself. find a board member located near you thats willing to help. i got my car when i was 16, and alot of things i know i learned from reading on this site, and then doing it on my car. you can get tire for $50 each from tirerack.com, and take them to a local shop and have them mounted and balanced for another $50. so for about $400, some elbow grease, youll be back in business

for manuals, get this, its 1,000,000 times better then haynes or chilton
