autocross shocks/struts

Just bought a poly bushing kit, and deciding on what shoocks and springs to go with.

I dont want to spend to much money so i figured this.

KYB AGX -$359 for the set
Tockico Illumina- $427 set
Everybody recommends the Konis for autocross, but the red's are over a 100 bucks more than any I have listed. Which do you guys think would be the best choice. Also anything else I should replace while im doing this swap??.

Oh and im guessing that the KYB AGX's are better than the GR-2's correct??.

Koni or Bilstein if you want to be competitive. You should be able to get a used set for around $4-500 for Koni yellows.

Check on SCCAforums.com. Sometimes you can find them there.

The AGX, toxicos, konis are adjustable which is what should be used for autox.

The GR2's are not. Thats what I have and did a bit of autox with. They are most likely the stiffest shock on the market for not being adjustable.

Koni's hands down. It is the one off the self shock that people who are competative use. The other good options go up in price from the konis (re-valved bilsteins, etc).

Save the coin you are going to spend on springs, and get good shocks/struts. It will pay off.

I figured the konis too, but they are too expensive. Which is a better option the Illumina's or the Agx's??. What would be abetter choice for autocross??... Opinions seem split on this website.

You said you wanted to buy new springs too. From experiance, don't bother with springs, spend that money to get the koni's.

Of the two you listed, I would go with Tokico, but they are not even in the same ball-park as Koni.

from my looking at pictures, and quick scans, toxico seems to be next favored below konis.

Only thing I dislike about the konis is I am told you have to dismount the bottom rears to adjust them. Where I dont belive you have to with toxicos and agx's.

I've run wik some used Bilstein (sports I believe) and used suspension techniques lowering springs. I was pleased. But, I just upgraded to koni's and 1000lb front springs. I'll let you know the difference after the end of the month.

I do agree w/ the 'save you coin'. It doesn't seem like you've been ax'ing for too long. Unless you're current shocks are leaking, I'ld just leave them in there and get more seat time, then buy koni's. Take that back. First thing I'ld buy (if you don't already) is another set of wheels and tires.

Go Koni and never look back. If you ever get competitive you will end up switching to these anyways. Look for used sets. They're on this board more often than you would think.

I've run Konis for 6 years and love them.
I have never messed with adjusting the rears, just the fronts. And the top drivers that I have talked to on the subject leave the rears at full soft also. I'm not saying your doing anything wrong by adjusting them. For me it is just easier to play with the rear springs, bar and tire air pressure.

Not if you get T-bird rears or the 4th gen rears (yellows only). You can get the Koni yellows for the front and Koni reds for the rear since you want the rear soft.
