It is a steering brace that fits with the front sway bar. GO to the Spohn website they have a picture. Some IROC's came with one from the factory. The aftermarket one is much stiffer and helps keep the front end tight.

Spohn makes one, and so does TDS. Both sponsers of the site.

I know *cough*someone who has a TDS design one(GM replica) for sale.

Apparently the steering box area was prone to stress/cracking especially with 16" IROC wheels, thus the brace. A few members (who weren't entirely sure if their cars were original IROC's, IIRC) mention the absence of the bar on their cars, and while it's certainly possible with GM, the wonderbar was a part of the IROC package. At any rate, the brace, if nothing else, is good preventative maintenance. Recommended. The bar in the following link is the Global West version:

I'm using a Spohn Wonderbar. This thing is huge compared to the stock piece. Its about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and hollow. The stock piece maybe solid, but it's only about 5/8 of an inch thick.

The sway bar seen in the above pic is 36mm, so 1.5 may be a bit of a stretch. The stock piece, like many OEM suspension pieces, is stamped steel.

Well 36mm is 1.4173228322 inches.......so pretty darn close to 1.5 inches.

I understand the measurement. I simply have a hard time believing that Spohn's bar is as large as the biggest front sway bar GM manufactured (36mm). In this day and age though, anything is possible.
