Remove liquid tire repair

Hey guys, to make a long story short, I was wondering how to remove the liquid tire repair stuff from your tires. I know most garages won't bother looking at them once they have this stuff in there. I believe the bead around the rim wasn't sealed properly anymore and when it was cold below zero the tires wouldn't hold air when driving. It seems like the rubber got hard when it was cold and if it wasn't sealed on the rim properly it wasn't flexing as much and let the air out slowly while driving. I paid a lot for the tires and they are in good shape so I am hoping to save them. I got stranded and had to use the liquid repair. So now I want to remove the tire from the rim and get rid of the goop/glue and get the tire checked out. I don't mind using elbow grease to get it out, but I want to know what to use. Somebody at the garage I was talking about said to use methyl hydrate?? Can anybody let me know what to use that is also safe on the tire.

Thanks
Darrell

That happened to me once. The shop I brought it to did clean it for me though, cost me like $50 for the cleaning and all tires balanced. They just said they scraped it out, I would think that methyl hydrate ( A.K.A. gas line antifreeze) would dry out the rubber? Not sure though, I vote for bringing it to the tire shop and playing dumb like I did and say you just need a balance cause you will anyway.

Most of that stuff is latex based & will rinse out with water if still soft. Once it hardens, most will turn to small marbles in the tire.

Usually water & a scrub brush will remove it. I've been it this situation before as well. Just break the tire down & scrub away. Whitewall tire cleaner helps as well.

It depends on what exacly the stuff you used was.. some of it will actually eat away the inside of the tire to fill in the "hole" you have.. then the tire is no good if it's in there long enough.. had it happen a few times at work.

Remedy to this problem is easy. I had a corvette and had some expensive **** bridgstone PSO2's and I got a nail in the crown of one of the tires. Like you, I made the mistake of putting the liquid tire repair into my damaged tire. I got an aweful vibration at 65mph or above After two months, I finally decided to take the tire off and remove the fluid out of my tire. I was not looking foward to spending 400$ for one tire! but removing the fluid from the tire fixed my vibration and my leak was fixed! I ended up selling my vette because I wanted a hot rod with a back seat.

It was the stuff from Canadian Tire, Motomaster Brand. It was done in the fall and was parked shortly after. So I want to get them checked out after I am able to remove the stuff.

That stuff is gross. I imagine you don't have a tire machine to rip the tire off the wheel, so just let crappy tire do it for you. Tell them to patch it up right, they'll pull off the tire and use a weird grinder and clean it all up and put a patch on the inside then rebalance it.

hehe, EVERY place I've worked wouldn't warranty any type of repair to a tire with that stuff in it. We would charge extra to clean it out because it takes about an extra 1/2 hour to clean it properly.

Thanks for the replies. Hey JoeZ88Camaro what do I use to take the stuff off with then. I originally special ordered the tires in from Costco and I talked to them the other day and they can probably remove them from the rim for me. I told them I don't mind doing the dirty work and elbow grease to remove the crap, but I would just like to know what works best.

Hey Sonnix, I don't think it needs a repair just a new valve stem or bead around the rim. When it was really cold with no snow yet (before I parked it)was the only time this would happen to the tires. I could be wrong but I believe the high performance tires would obviously be less flexible when it is really cold and it would only happen the colder it got. Parked it would be ok but just driving around they would get low. And it was more than one.

Take your car in, and give them a turkey baster. They can then suck out most of it, but still will need to wipe out the remaining with paper towels.
