A growling orbital noise/vibration
Hey, I am having a problem with my 89 Firebird. When I'm idling, slowing down in Neutral, or have it in 5th gear at the same speed, it makes this growling noise coming from a wheel, or something, but it's got this horrible vibration, aswell. I checked the rear wheel bearings, added some dope to the rear end, and am soon gonna pull off my front right wheel and check the bearings there, but any ideas?
Re: A growling orbital noise/vibration
That description sounds like a rear end carrier bearings and gears howling and on its way out. Hate to say it but that is not a cheap or quick fix- its basically done and will need a major rebuild most likely.

Re: A growling orbital noise/vibration
I checked the rear end bearings and they seemed fine. My front end inner and outer bearings were toast, though. It's probably what caused it, but I'll see, I also learned that both of my rocker panels are toast.. So it should be a rough time fixing my body panels.
