Q about wonderbar

i have a question..first off, why are people trying to sell them for over 100 bucks when hawks has them for around 60? another thing..why doesnt anyone fab this simple bar with brackets on their own? but my REAL QUESTION IS: is aftermarket wonderbar solid steel? hollow steel? what size? im gonna make one if its not solid

Re: Q about wonderbar

i believe the stock style has a solid bar, but its small diameter. most aftermarket ones are tubular and about 1.25 OD. there is no reason to make a large solid wonder bar if that is your plan.

Re: Q about wonderbar

no not at all as a matter of fact, if all wonderbars were solid i wasnt gonna make one because of the lack of supplies. I have TONS well maybe one ton of odds and ends of tubular square tube round tube oval tube piping and thats what i will use to make this. i see no reason to spend all kinds of money on parts if you can make your own and have a welder wouldnt you agree? as long as its basically the same just "no-name". maybe i'll put my name on it

Re: Q about wonderbar

sure, aside from the slight complexities of the mounting brackets, my UMI wonderbar is just a straight piece of tubing with the 2 flat mounting pads. i could make the thing myself, but the time invested would not be worth it to me. if i took 3 hours to fab the brackets, weld the thing together and get it powdercoated, i might as well just spend the $60 and buy one. but if you were to mass produce them you could do very well.

Stooooopidity. I remember OEM pieces going for $60 or more on ebay once upon a time, when GM still had them in stock for $34, IIRC.
