Knocking sound when turning

Whenever I turn somewhat sharply, I get this knock from the front. It doesn't matter whether I turn right or left, it's the same.

If I have the car in park and turn the wheel all the way either way, it makes that knocking sounds. Any ideas?

mine does the same thing, my crappy front sway bar hits my struts slightly. also check to see if the pitman arm is hitting the sway bar when it turns

Re: Knocking sound when turning

I had a knock, more like a pop or clunk sound.Checked out my front end and one of mt outer tie rod ends I could move it around with my hand.Had it fixed and it stopped.Get under it(safely)and give everything a good look and tug you might get lucky and find it.

Yep...Tie rod ends....Both of mine started that a couple of weeks ago. Well, one did, another started tonight.

Gotta replace them.

Yep...but you have to go get the alignment checked afterwards. You can count exposed threads on your old ones, pull them off, then put the new ones in as close as you can to what it was. That should get you to an an alignment shop, to get it set right.

Re: Knocking sound when turning

Did you go ahead and change inners and outers at the sametime or just the outers?

Re: Knocking sound when turning

I just went ahead and bit the bullet and had all of the wearable front susspension components done. The car is 20 years old it probably wouldnt hurt to haveall inner and outer tierods and balljoints checked and replaced if necessary and also have all your bushings checked and replaced with polly bushings.Of course if everything looks fine other than a tie rod end and you dont have the money dont waste money on stuff that aint broken.

Re: Knocking sound when turning

I would replace all the wear items:

Inner/outer tie rod ends
Adjusting sleeves
Center link
Idler arm

Just get it over with so you don't have to guess about anything else in the future. Oughta check your A-arm ball joints as well

Re: Knocking sound when turning

Just do it right. What's the point of even changing tie rods if your car is going to be out of alignment afterwards?

Re: Knocking sound when turning

Replacing my bushings fixed the problem for me. When we got the car, a rat had been chewing away at them...

Ha! I believe it man. I once found a possum nesting under the hood of my Buick.

Amazing what can get under there.
