Anyone with LCA relocation brackets...

I've decided that there's no way I can justify spending $60 or more for what is essentially two pieces of heavy sheet steel bent into a "U" shape & drilled with a couple holes, so I'm going to basically fab my own. If anyone who has a set of these could get a couple of measurements, I'd sure appreciate it.

All I need are the total height of the bracket & the thickness of the metal used. (I'm guessing that the thickness will be around 3/16", but would prefer to know for sure.) If someone felt like also measuring the linear distance between the holes (yes, I know that the LCA travels in an arc), that'd be a bonus, but the 1st two measurements are the ones that concern me most.

Thanks all!

Re: Anyone with LCA relocation brackets...

$60 is too steep for ya?
Check on the price of that metal, and you'll realize $60 isn't bad. After you measure, scribe, cut, centerpunch, drill, and weld it up, you'll wish you would have saved the time and just dropped $60.
Anyway, 3/16" or 1/4" is fine for thickness.
19 1/4" I *think* is the center to center distance for the LCA's. If you've got the lca's out, you can measure it yourself...

Height is whatever you want it to be, so that you can bring those bolt holes down as far as you want. 6" maybe? So that you have overlap over the original LCA mounting area.

yup more trouble than what its worth, trust me i had the same idea, but in the end my pockets were $65 lighter and Spohns were $65 heavier totally worth 65 bucks, imo.

Heh - not quite. When it comes to getting something that costs a bit, but that I feel is worthwhile (my AFR heads & Koni yellows), I just save up longer if needed. And I've been doing a fair bit of fabrication & modification lately, so the thought of punching/drilling/cutting is "just another day at the office" so to speak.

TPl383, thank you for that reminder, I'll give myself the ol' for not thinking of that before posting...

Thanks for the feedback guys, I do appreciate it.

I 2nd that! why do you think all my suspension is homemade? and I have aluminum heads and aftermarket wheels? - accumulated scrap metal that cuts mid 1.6 60fts......

Ok ok, if you've got the tools, the experience, and can get some material relatively cheaply, yea by all means do it yourself. Pretty soon i'll be getting more tools so I can do this stuff myself.

I made a solidworks model of the LCA's before, but the dimensions weren't complete (some missing). I intend to finish it up one day and post it up. Maybe i'll take measurements from some homemade LCARB's I bought from a member here recently.

Re: Anyone with LCA relocation brackets...

$65 is a steal, unless you just like the challenge and satisfaction of making something like this on your own. sure, i could make them myself, but just think for a moment, what is your time worth? you also need another set on bolts and some bolt spacers to make everything work, they are not just a piece of u-shaped metal

the ones i got from UMI are 3/16 thick

Re: Anyone with LCA relocation brackets...

I can't see spending 60 bucks on it......but someone who has....can they please tell me.

Why do you think things cost money? Cause it took someone some time to figure it out.

Sometimes it's just easier to buy it.

Re: Anyone with LCA relocation brackets...

I say if you got the resorces make em. ya $65bucks is cheap for a set but **** its $10 bucks in materials. and maybe an Hours worth of time.

Shop rate of $75/hr and materials Your over the cost of what I could buy a set for. But I like doing stuff on my own. and Im sure he does also if he is asking about info on dimentions.

I make my car a vert. I mini tubbe dit myself. i did my own turbo kit. Etc..
Im sure id have a TON less time wrapped up into everything if I just said Ahhh, I'll send it off for someone else to do. But I and a TON of people on this site like to do things for ourselfs.

This is well stated. Many of us are big on the do it yourself idea otherwise this would not be a website.

At the time I made my cold air intake for my Formula there were none avalible(that worked well anyways) so I fabed one up myself. There is a sense of accomplishment when you can answer someone if they asked "Who made that"?
