Re: Where to buy Adj. Spherical Rod Ends

well those are kinda what i was talking about only I was looking for wider ones. If you look at ones on umi and sphon LCAs they are wider. Or are they just using a two piece rod end with a bushing. How would you stop the rod end fom sliding left to right on the bushing?

I git all of my stuff from Murf McKinney race cars. They have everything in stock and never had any issues with their products.

Re: Where to buy Adj. Spherical Rod Ends

they don't come "wider" you put in aluminum spacers on either side of LCAs for instance to take up the gap where the bushings used to be.

Re: Where to buy Adj. Spherical Rod Ends

Exactly. It's better than stacking washers on both sides. You can buy any tube (aluminum, copper, steel), it isn't taking a huge amount of force, and get the right ID. Get a length of it, then chop it to whatever length you need.

And yea, rod ends are available from summit, but also mcmastercarr.com - they've got a good selection. QA1 is supposed to be the best of the best. Dust boots are a good idea, some racing outlets sell those. And finally, the tubing adapters (so you have threads), I've seen those on mcmastercarr.com for about $3/per.

Quick question for everyone else while we're on the topic - how would you make something adjustable length IF you did NOT use double rod ends? Like say you made something with poly on both ends, picture the stock panhard rod for example. Now what set of gizmos would you put **in the center** of that bar to make it adjustable length?
(I know if there is one rod end, you can unbolt it and let the rod end out further, but lets say you want to leave it in place to add some pre-load for example).

Don't mind me, i'm just piggy backing onto this thread. Thanks

Re: Where to buy Adj. Spherical Rod Ends

Sonix got the rest of my question with the extra spacer, I did not know that the spacer only went on the outside of the rod end. So I was confused on how you make it so the spacer would not slide on the inside of the rod end.

I was refering to these 122-XML10-12 at jegs that I have now been fowarded to.

Thanks fo the quick response

Exactly like that. What IS that in the middle? Basically two pieces of threaded rod, one right hand one left hand, with a nut over it? Welded together? That seems like a PITA, can you buy that middle "thingy" off the shelf? Does it have a name?

And then threaded tube ends welded into the tubing, and locknuts?

They are made like that so you can adjust em on the car. Not like the ones you have to undo one end to adjust em.

No is a threaded adjuster that is machined out of a soild hex stock. but yes there are 4130 threaded ends TIG welded into the ends of the tubes.

What the gent is talking about above, is the spacers inside and on the outside of the rod end.

There is a spacer in the middle that is just a bit smaller than the dia. of the hole in the rod end. Then there are two steel spacers on the outside of the rod end to keep it centered.

Exactly! That's the beauty of 'em! And why i'd like to know how to make those...

Ah... Strange. I don't have a lathe so... Can you buy these off the shelf somewhere?

Also check out http://www.speedwaymotors.com as they carry many different combos to make or modify suspension.

"double adjusters". $22 is a bit much for that much steel, but I guess it's tricky to make so..

That's the type of site I don't really know exists. Thanks for answering my question guys.
