Tire sizes on 15 inch rims

My 'bird has the stock rims on it. I like them so I have no interets in changing them right now. They are the 15x7s. The stock tire size was 215/65R15. The car had 235s on it when I bought but I have since put the 215s back on it. The 235s rubbed in the front. I'll probably stick with the 215s in the front because they are fine and I don't feel like replacing all of my brand new tires. However in the rear, now that I have started going to the dragstip, the 215s won't cut it in the rear. The sticky says that 255s will work on 15 inch rims but to stay below a 55 aspect ratio. I can find no such tire for a 15 inch rim. Will the 255/60R15s fit on the rear of our cars? I will most likely go with this size on my SS fairly soon, so I was wondering if they'd also work on a 3rd gen. Would a 225s fit well in the front? The options are a little more limited for that size, so that is another reason I think I'll stay with the 215s.

225s fit fine on mine in the front with no rubbing. For that matter my 235/60 15 Radial T/As didn't rub either. My 245/50 ZR16s don't rub either.

Maybe your suspension is a little low in the front?

Ditto. I'm also running 235s with stock suspension height and no rubbing.

Re: Tire sizes on 15 inch rims

I always ran a 265-50-15...but that was on an after market 8" rim with 4" backspacing. They rubbed a little in front and not at all in back. Actually they fit the front a little better than a 235-60..but again this was not on a factoy rim.

It used to be you had a lot of selections in this size...but not anymore. I also see that the only one sold by tirerack.com also recommends a 7.5 inch rim minimum. So this may not be very useful information.

Re: Tire sizes on 15 inch rims

My 235s rubbed on hard turning. As far as I know nothing is wrong with my suspension. If there is it's nothing obvuious. I think the bushing in the rear are all shot, but the front seems ok.

Any verdict on the 255/60R15s?

Transmission: Sometimes

They will look, and act, like the car is on balloons.

235/60-15 is just about ideal. Any bigger than that, is too wide for those wheels.

Really? That sucks. Oh well, I guess if I need to go bigger I'll need different rims.
