Re: need new fron frame

The front subframe is welded to the body, not bolted like earlier generations.

You'd be better off replacing the car.

Re: need new fron frame

The subframe on these cars is made up of a few layers of sheetmetal that aren't always touching each other, so welding a new front clip onto your car with factory precision and alignment will be next to impossible. Unless you have all the metalworking tools and a shop to do this, you should go and find a good camaro shell and transfer all the parts off your current car to it.

Re: need new fron frame

Can't help you with the type of saw(s).
But, it is very possible and relatively easy to replace the front from the firewall forward. My body guy quoted me $200 if I brought him the new piece.
When it comes to alignment....my body guy wants ALL the engine/suspension components so that they would be able to line everything up perfectly. There's a triangular measurement that helps them accomplish this.
If you're stuck on your car, it can be done.
If you don't much care, just get a different shell.

Either way it's a lot of work.

Re: need new fron frame

I would try using the SawZall with a 24 TPI blade. The other possibility would be the air driven zip tool. Basically a 3" diameter cutoff wheel in an air motor.

Re: need new fron frame

the part i need to replace is the metal that the fenders bolt to and where the radiator sits i was thinking i would be possible to cut that along with the strut towers and weld that to the frame that comes out from under the car sorry for the confusion

Re: need new fron frame

You could do that, but it would be difficult and/or expensive to do while getting everything aligned properly.

You'd really, really be better off getting another car.
