Bilstein strut/Spohn sway bar end link interference???
I recently rebuilt my entire front end, and am having a problem with the struts and the sway bar end links hitting each other. they are Bilstein struts and a Spohn sway bar.
when the wheel is turned all the way to the left, the passenger side strut hits the sway bar end link, and when it's turned all the way to the right, it's the driver side strut hitting the sway bar end link. see the attached picture for a look at the driver side.
granted, the car is still on jack stands, so the suspension is fully extended which may throw off the alignment. i havent gotten the time yet to compress it further to see if it fixes it. in the mean time - any suggestions??
thanks,
-brian

Re: front strut/sway bar end link interference
In looking at my '83 the stabilizer link is angled inboard with the suspension loaded. The Spohn bar's end appears to have a wider arc than the 36mm factory bar on my car.Is the Bilstein's lower section any larger in diameter than another strut?Once you put your wheels back on and put her back on the ground the angle will change and may alleviate the problem.Just my observation though.

hopefully you guys are right - the geometry will improve things once the car is on the ground. but if it doesnt, and that sway bar is causing the problems, i will ba making one unhappy phone call to Spohn. i don't want to jump the gun though - i have a lot of Steve's stuff on my car with zero problems.
i'll post an update when i can. thanks for the help so far..
