Re: 89 steering column in a second gen
What happened to the 2nd gen column, is it missing or broken in some way? Why do you want to try to put a 3rd gen column into a 2nd gen? Just happen to have the parts?
Honestly, I'm not sure if it'll be of the same measurements or a direct swap. If it'll bolt right in okay, but you may have to re-wire the connectors, I'm guessing.
If for some reason you need a replacement column for the 2nd gen, you might be better off looking for OE replacemnt parts or consider an aftermarket replacement.
Good luck and welcome to TGO

Re: 89 steering column in a second gen
The tilt column I have in the 70 keeps getting loose. I have to go in and tighten the screws in the base of the column to keep it from flopping around. It's an annoying job and seems I have to do it more often.
I have an 89 that I'm parting out and was debating whether to take the column out or not. Doesn't seem like too many people are interested in parts so I've pretty much been taking stuff off that I can use if it doesn't sell. If the column wouldn't fit the 70, I was going to leave it in when it goes to camaro heaven.

I doubt it will fit. The length is probably different. The base mounting point probably isn't in the same position or angle. The upper mounting point is probably different.
As a direct swap, it probably won't fit but anything can be made to fit if you have enough time and money.
