Re: best manual valvebody??
Starting off in D with a manual valve body will also fry a transmission unless it still has an automatic feature while in D. The valve body itself won't fry the transmission.

i shift it manually through all gears, i dont leave it in drive. the valvebody is what is causing it to flare into third gear. i changed nothing but the valvebody and this occured.

Re: best manual valvebody??
you can try to mess with the accumulator.
i dont know the exact parts you have, but there are several shim and spring mods to try and stop the issue.

376015 Full manual, reverse pattern, engine braking.

I have to assume all the modification required were done properly? No parts were left out or not done? You didn't lose the check ball under the aux valve body?
Providing everything was installed and modified properly I only have a couple of suggestions.
A poor or misadjusted TV cable.
Worn or improper clearance 3-4 clutch pack.
Worn, improperly modified servo
There's a crack somewhere causing a pressure leak.
Install a pressure gauge and get readings in all shifter positions.

If you think it's the valve body, change the tranny back to original and see if the flare goes away.

The main things that I have seen that affect the 2-3 shift are;
2-4 servo travel
3-4 clutch pack clearance
Sealing ring damage on the input shaft. Usually, caused by bad stator bushing(s).
Servo piston pin bore wear is usually not a problem with the 700.
Check all accumulator piston pin bores for wear. There should be a slip fit clearance only. Any rocking of the accumulator pistons on their pins is a crossleak and a big no no.
Last but not least. The quality of the 2-4 band and the 3-4 clutch pack friction material. Any glazing of these friction elements will greatly affect the syncronized timing of the 2-3 shift. The friction elements can be slightly burnt and not leave any debris in the pan.
Any problems that can affect line pressure. Worn TV boost valves, plugged filter, worn out pump.
