Is this a common reinforcement method on these cars?

I just bought the car recently and the previous owner didn't know anything about it. I'm wondering if the reinforcements pictured below are common/useful on these cars or is this un-needed weight?

Those look like subframe connectors, they do real good on the rigidness of the car if properly installed.

Well I can tell you right now the welds are kinda shoddy. I'll get some better pictures within a few days here but I'll probably end up cutting them out and redoing from scratch.

Looks like do it yourself sub frame connectors. Do they actually connect the subframes? It pretty much looks crappy anyway, it should really be tacked along the rest of the underside of the body.
They are basically a nessecity for 3rd gens if you want any performance out of them. It tightens up the whole car making it handle better by keeping the car from twisting as it does not have a frame.

Are they just straight peices of bar or do they have any Y's to them? where are they welded too? look up subframe connectors for our cars at spohn, umi, etc, see if any resemble what you have. They do look kind of basic however. Would'nt be suprised if they were home made.

They look home made. Home made ones can work fine if done correctly. From the sound or your replies, I would cut out and either make a nice set or spen the 150.00 and get a good set that fits correctly.

I made mine and they fit like a glove. But my car has extensive mods done to the frame.

Without actually seeing where they're mounted, it's hard to say how good they are. SFC even in a stock third gen should be installed. I wouldn't remove them just because they're home made. My car has home made SFC

Re: Is this a common reinforcement method on these cars?

that looks alot like what i did to my car. i used 2"x2" mild steel square tubing and cut into the floor board as well as into the rear subfram, knotched it all out and welded it all up and to the front. mine are more into the floor board which is better and all the aftermarkets bc it reinforces it alil more. but i have the same space between the floor and the tubing, but for only about a 1-1.5ft. it starts to cut into the floor right where the floor board starts to flow in the downward angle.

yours dont do that so im not really sure what he did. it looks like he welded in a bar in the front on the left side of the pic but u cut it off when it started. thats what i need to do for more reinforcement but i can tell that ur gona rip them off anyway. u can def do better. its just more work to do it my way but its worth more in the end if u do it right

Re: Is this a common reinforcement method on these cars?

Hi new to the forums. I have recently been researching sfc and there are a lot of different styles. Any Canadians out there?? Where can I get afforable subframe conn. in Canada or Shipped. By affordable lets look. Spohn; pipe multiple piece $318.50 U.S. shipped OR Competition engineering by
Moroso; 2" square tube one piece (per side) $104.07 can. + tax (these will affect ground clearance and exhaust!) Somewhere in the middle. Better yet , anyone with good pics and a cost estimate of diy?

Get the Spohn over the Moroso. The ground clearance and exhaust clearance lost isn't worth it, IMO. And some of them you have to modify the floor pan.
