sway bars v6 to v8

ive never change the sway bars and springs from my 2.8 to v8 swap. im going to buy new springs and and stuts but in the process im buying poly bushings for the replacement of the bushings. my question is this, what are the differences between the v8 and v6 sway bars? do i need to change them or just buy the poly bushings?

Re: sway bars v6 to v8

There's not really "V8" and "6-cyl" bars, as such, although most of the time, the 6-cyl cars, having been built for people who wanted the "image" but didn't care about performance, are MUCH lighter than V8 ones, which were chosen for new-car buyers looking for a bit more of a "driver's car"; but, for your driving pleasure, thicker sway bars on both ends, in a properly matched relationship, will make an ENORMOUS improvement.

The good combos with stock bars are the 35/24, or hollow 26/24.

If the bars are mismatched, then in general (details may vary, but in general) the end of the car with too much bar, will have its outside tire forced to do too much work in corners, which leads to a loss of traction on that end of the car in hard cornering. Meaning, if you put a real stiff front bar on but leave the weak rear bar, it biases the car toward understeer (turn the front wheels, car goes straight); if you put on too stiff of a rear bar, it leads to oversteer (turn the wheels, rear end tries to swing out). Sway bars should be selected to give a somewhat neutral handling characteristic to the car.

This assumes of course that you have the springs (which ARE DEFINITELY different between the 6-cyl and V8 setups) have been properly addressed.

I think you mean hollow 36.
I had 36/25 and it's too stiff. I'm going to 36/24 and see if that makes the over-steer go away.

Little. haha. This may help:

There are a couple that aren't on the list, but you should be able to find what you have. Or, you could get a set of metric wrenchs if you can't find a caliper and measure.

Re: sway bars v6 to v8

That sounds about right. I think would be what a V6 car would have.
If you do measure, make sure you measure in the middle of the bar.... at least I think that's where you measure.

Re: sway bars v6 to v8

my 91 camaro v6 and 92 firebird v6 had 27mm soild front and 18 rear
my 91 camaro F 41 had a 34 hollow and 21 rear
all of them i upgraded to 36mm front and 25 rear
find a ws6 car to get the sway bars from and mine aswell get the springs aswell all ws6 cars had bigger bars
some irocs didnt have the big bars so its easier to find a ws6 car normaly
most 80s cars with out z28 or ta package had 27 front and no rear bar
