Kumho Ecsta AST tire - looking for opinion

Does anyone on the board run this tire? I am looking for a 245/50/16 tire, granted its not on an f-body, but I know this is a very common size for the 3rd gen guys/gals. On my Monte I have new style ZQ8's with bald Goodyears...I always liked BFG tires for the price and quality/performance. But I can't ignore that the Kumho AST's are only $60 apiece on tirerack.com . The car is only driven spring through fall, sees a little rain but mostly dry roads. Car isn't going to be entered in any autocross events but it does have several suspension modifications so it handles pretty well too. Handling is important as is traction. Longevity not as much since its not a daily driver but price is definately a factor. So far I've heard decent things on the Kumho brand, but not much on this specific tire. I was eying up BFG g-force sports when they were on sale ($85 apeice IIRC) but now they are up to $105 ish so they are way out of my budget.

So, anyone have them? Hate, so-so, like, love?

I just put that size on my 1994 25th and really like them. They worked great in all the rain that we just had in sunny Southern California sure beats the bald Pirelli's I had on it. Can't beat the price.

I got em for the price too, needed tires. Can't really give a review though because I've never driven a thirdgen with any other tire. Got them right after I got my car.

Re: Kumho Ecsta AST tire - looking for opinion

Skip the AST's and go for the SPT's, the SPT's are becoming the tire of choice of auto-x'ers for rain events. Good wear and traction wet or dry seems to be the concensus. The big reason a lot of guys run them is that they tend to hold up well when they get hot which rarely happens on a street tire. What this means is that they will hold up to an open track event without chunking or getting greasy when they heat up. If snow traction is a concern then the AST's might be a better choice.

i have kumho tires on my mustang and i love them, but they do wear down really fast and get horrible wet traction. i think mine are asx's though.

I have the AST's and I like them. Good tire for the price. I got mine for 300 out the door.
