Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

If someone could provide a measurement, ground to fender lip through wheel's center cap, I'd very much appreciate your effort.

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

Sorry James, my CC635's are on the ground right now next to the car, and next to the rear end. Also, my tires are 29" tall, so that kind of makes this type of measurement more of an apples to oranges comparison don't you think?

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

Right... the "apples to apples" measurement would be from some point ont he chassis (fender lip would work but is rather imprecise being just a piece of trim), to the center of the axle. Ground is irrelevant because of the number of potential confounding factors.

I'll see if I can get out and dig enough snow off to measure mine.

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

15-5/8" average from center of wheel to edge of fender lip.... 15½" on one side, 15¾" on the other. Don't know how perfectly even the ground is but that should be plenty close enough for making a decision.

Also, note that those springs are about 10-12 years old and have probably 80,000 miles on them. Although I can say that they don't ride or sit too noticeably different from when they were new, looking at old pics and such.

That's basically no weight in the rear right? I can't imagine you have 300# of stereo equipment in the back of your Camaro, but I had to ask in case you have sandbags back there or something...

Thanks, sofa, you snow shoveling madman you! I've been running the 5665's since last summer (hoping they'd settle--what crapola that is since mine didn't settle a fraction). Even without the OE isolators (radiator hose) and using your measuring method, the car's sitting at nearly 16 1/2. With OE isolators, 17. I've always been dissatisfied with that height. So, humm, what to do, what to do? Cut or try the cc635's?

Yes! You should.

IIRC it still has the stock isolators in it.

No big stereo stuff, just stock replacement; but it does have the deluxe interior stuff all back there... carpeted everything, the lift cover for the well, pull-out shade, some extra sound-deadening, spare tire (steel), jack, and a little bit of stuff in the well, maybe 20 lbs or so. Plus some snow ON the car, not a whole lot, but some.

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

CC635's are about $75. If they don't work you can always pull them back out and return them and say it was the wrong ones. PITA, but it'd save you the $75.
Rear springs are so easy to swap out so...

How about $42.87 from CarQuest! I was surprised to see that for an 85 IROC only the cc635 coils were listed. Interesting. Think I'll give them a try when the weather warms a bit. Are the 5665's and the cc's the same length (not that it matters)?

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

No, I thought the CC635's are longer, but so soft at full length that once they are loaded they become shorter. AFAIK at least.

$42?!? Damn, whenever sofa mentions a price on an auto-part down in the "heartland" I always just assume he hasn't been out to a store in the last 20 years, but DAMN!!!! I paid $80+ a shipping cost at my local parts store, since it was a special order piece. Friggen border.

I take it that you are disatified with your 5665 springs. I got mines shortly after you and I have no regrets. Whats the problem with them?

I have them too. Gives the car a slightly taller stance but level. What are you trying to achieve, as far as height and stance? See pic https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cama...oad-again.html

No real problem at all--the ride's fine. I just feel the fender gap is a bit much, especially compared to the front.

Bad, any chance I could get you to take the same measurement as sofa did above?

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

I got em too (5665's). Mine are 16.25 from the center of the wheel to the lip using heater hose for isolators. On level ground, the car is sitting @ 28 & 28.5 front and rear from the ground to the lip. This is with 245/50/16 tires.

Much appreciated, gm. Nice to know that that's the ballpark.

Re: Those Using Moog CC635 Springs

15 3/4" from center of cap to bottom lip of fender on left and 16" on the right. This is with stock OEM isolators.I am happy with the ride and I also have some extra room for a set of drag radials when needed.(When I complete my 383).

Many thanks, Bad. That's a 1/2 inch lower or so than mine and I'm using radiator hose. Good grief, what gives here!

IROCU2, measurement?

Forgot to mention that I have a dual sub box and amp in the rear cargo area. Maybe that's the difference!

Mine was measured with nothing in the trunk (no spare or jack) and about 5 gallons of fuel in the tank.
