Installing Eibachs....Help??
Im going to install all four eibachs for the stock ones on my RS. just to get an estimate i asked 2 places for a price quote and i got 1 for 390 dollars
and the other offer was for 270
. So far this car has never been touched by a mechanic (since ive had it) and ill keep it that way, but does anyone have any info, steps or precautions for changing these out i dont wanna get my leg taken out by a pressurized coil! i asked a guy that worked at the parts store and he mentioned something about safety chain being hooked up. any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Installing Eibachs....Help??
The rears are easy. Just jack the car up by the rear end/hog head, put jack stands under the beefy piece where the LCAs attach to the body. Lower the rear end til the suspension is completely extended. You should be able to crawl under the car and wiggle the springs out. If you're concerned about it not working, take the bolts off the shock mounts on the rear end before you lower the rear suspension. This way, it should almost drop to the ground.
The front is the dangerous end. The springs up there are alot stiffer and can fly out and do damage. I've not done mine (had them done due to time constraints). I've read that people just carefully do one side at a time and use a jack (after jacking the car up and supporting it with jackstands) under the a-arm. Then remove the bolt holding the strut to the strut tower, and slowly/carefully lower the a-arm til the pressure of the spring is released. Others have used a spring compressor that you can rent from Advance Auto or Auto Zone.

Careful that you don't overextend the brake line when you lower the rear end.

You'll have to unbolt the strut from the spindle and be carefull when removing the springs, but other than that, you got it. They should just come out once you have them compressed and the strut unbolted.

Re: Installing Eibachs....Help??
Since you're installing lowering springs, you can get away without the compressor. I used a chain to keep the spring from flying anywhere, like into my knees. You can go to the hardware store and buy 2ft of chain and the screw on link.
I rebuilt the frontend two years ago and this is what I did:
-Raise the front body of the car
-As James said, you should disconnect the caliper and set it aside, and disconnect the sway bar
-chain the spring to the body, not to tight or it will bind when you release it, but not to loose or it could still take off
-loosen strut from the top (if you're replacing struts, loosen the nut from the spindle too)
-loosen the nut holding the spindle to the A-arm until its flat with the top of the stud then smack it with a BFH, the spring will help you loosen it so you don't need a pickle fork, but the nut will keep it from coming off
-Jack up the A-arm, then remove the strut and spindle
-Slowly release the jack, the spring won't come out right away you'll need a big pry bar to get it out of its seat
Installing is basically in reverse, and make sure the bottom of the spring is 'indexed' between the two holes in the A-arm
