36mm (solid & hollow) sway bars questions

i have both solid and a hollow 36mm sway bar iv had them for sometime now
I was wounding why GM offered 2 of the same sized bars but in hollow or solid? also what cars got what "solid or hollow" and what one is more rare then the other, is there any advantages? the only one i can see is the hollow bar is lighter only by a very small magian

I don't think GM made a solid 36mm bar for these cars. As far as I know WS6 firebirds were the only cars to get the hollow 36. Also, the solid should be considerably heavier than the hollow.

No solid 36 that I know of. Some Firebirds (etc.), 86-92, and some Camaros, 89-92, were equipped with the hollow 36, solid 24 combo.

Re: 36mm (solid & hollow) sway bars questions

Cars with the 1LE (camaro) or WS6 (firebird) performance packages were the only vehicles equiped with the 36mm hollow front and 24mm solid rear sway bars. GM never sold a 36mm solid bar. Not to sound like an ***, but you either you messed up the measurement, the hole on the bar is filled with dirt to make it look like a solid bar, or that bar is an aftermarket piece with the logo taken off. More than likely it is an aftermarket bar and will be much stiffer then the stock bar. If you plan to install it, just be aware that it may be too large (stiff) and make the car oversteer.

I'd bet you have a hollow 36mm and a solid 34mm, they look virtually identical in size. You need a caliper to measure it properly.

Actually, it is the other way around.....a larger/stiffer front bar will result in understeer.

A larger rear bar (or smaller front bar) will result in oversteer.
